Need a "minor" fistulectomy - any info appreciated

I had a severe fissure that managed to heal on its own over a period of about 5 months. However, it healed in such a way that I developed a fistula over the area.

It's offensive to say the least; keeps filling up after bowel movements, gets painful, etc... so it's got to be taken care of.

The CRS said that basically he will "filet" the fistula - essentially creating a new fissure (UGH!) but it's the only way to get rid of it.

He said it couldn't be done in the office & that I will be put under "twilight" sleep - that part, I understand.

I would appreciate any info you can share with me about this. Thanks & have a great weekend.

I had a fissure that eventually healed. I know the kind of pain that it puts you in. I never developed a fistula but know they are terrible. I live in the Chicago area and just wanted to make sure you didn't have a doctor named James Wiegolewski. I have heard terrible things about him.

Hi - thanks for your reply.. and the warning. That's not my doctor - so I guess that's a good thing.
