Two Toned Stool Colour

Does anybody know why my stool, when “normal”, has two distinct colours. One side will be very dark the other light. When my stool is not formed correctly, it contains a mixture of the two colours. Very seldom is my stool a uniform brown in colour.
Two years ago I had a stapled haemorrhoidectomy but the haemorrhoids were back 6 months after the op. To my knowledge I have never had bleeding haemorrhoids or blood in my stools. Just concerned about the two-toned stool colour.
