Help! Beyond IBS

My husband has been diagnosed with IBS for the last 15 years, he has had several colonoscopies, upper GI, checked for chron's, been on antispasmodics, anti-depressants, and has gone to many doctors. This past year he has gotten much worse so we had another colonoscopy, upper GI and endoscopy- all negative. He was prescribed Pentasa and got worse, tried probiotics, everything. Lately he has even lost control of his bowels. His IBS is the diarhea kind and you can actually hear his intestines at night. He has cramping, bloating, and diarhea everyday, all day. He recently cut out dairy products that has helped a little and cut out chocolate and alcohol. He is so depressed because no one can seem to help!! Please any suggestions would be appreciated.

Might I suggest he try one more probiotic called Custom Probiotics Formula 1. It has made a real difference for me. He may also try taking OTC immodium at bedtime on a daily basis as well. I buy in bulk (400 tabs) at Costco.

I feel for him....

Re: Help! Beyond IBS

Get ENTERRIC coated fish oil Omega 3. Has to be enterric coated to get past the stomach digestive acids and open in the intestinal areas where it coats the silic and lining where inflamation and lesion are found. I recommend 3000 mg every 4 hours for a few days until you feel relief and then wing it depending on your body's response. In bad cases you might need to take heavy doses for a few weeks. You can fing ENTERRIC coated omega fish oil at vitamin shoppes or order froma great place in canada 604 687 6524. SO sure am I thatthsi will do the trick that I will say ahead of time you are welcome. Good luck and happy holiday

Exclamation Re: Help! Beyond IBS

I suffered from IBS for 10 years. I attribute it mostly to all the toxic milk from the grocery store that I drank. Then, someone suggested that I try raw goat milk, which I did. Finally, after about three weeks on fresh goat milk my stomach finally started to feel better and less bloated. I'll never go back to store-bought milk again -it's not natural and literally rots in the intestines. Yes, it's not easy driving several hours to the nearest goat dairy, but it's well worth it to finally be cured. I usually buy about 8 gallons and freeze them. I just unthaw a gallon as needed. I also take a product called Primal Defense from a company called Garden of Life. This has also been very helpful. This is a product unlike any other. I have heard of cases of people who had Chrones Disease and healed after taking Primal Defense. Keifer is also very good for stomach problems - home made is the best. For more information on how to truly end intestinal problems, read THE MAKER'S DIET by Jordan Rubin.

Also, I forgot, as someone also suggested on other thread - the omega fish oil.

Help for IBS

1. Raw Goat Milk (check your state's listing of dairies...) Request that the milk you buy not be pastuerized. If pastuerized, it will be about as useless as what's in the stores...

2. Primal Defense (Garden of Life)

3. Fish Oil (also available from Garden of Life)

4. Read The Maker's Diet

Re: Help! Beyond IBS

I have had IBS (diarrhea type) for several years too, and there is one thing that hasn't been suggested to you. I've had all the medications and currently because of spasms and chronic pain I take Methadone, which helps with the diarrhea too. I also have other pain problems.

What I wanted to mention to you is, has your husband been checked for Clostridium difficile? Commonly referred to as C. diff, it has all the symptoms you mentioned. I had IBS for years and then it got worse where I would have nocturnal diarrhea and also have "accidents" while in public or at work.

Today, I am on Social Security Disability, and the C. diff two years ago has been taken care of, but I still have the IBS and take my medication for it. There are two drugs they use in C. diff cases. Most doctors will start with Flagyl for about two weeks and if that doesn't solve the problem, they go to Vancomycin for two weeks. In most people this will take care of the problem. There are a few (including me) that it didn't work. I took four courses of two weeks at $1,400 retail each, thank goodness for insurance. If this happens, there is a procedure that is still experimental in the US (it's done in Europe frequently) called a Fecal Transfer. I won't go into details, unless you need me to, but that finally worked on me. I got rid of the C. diff in October, 2005. I take Probiotics daily, and so far I haven't had it come back.

See your husband's GI doc and mention C. diff to him. Good luck to him also, I truly feel for him.

Re: Help! Beyond IBS

Thank you, I have forgotten about C diff. My husband was on antibiotics during his last episode, and this may have caused C diff. I will definately have him tested.
