Abnormal stools for over a year now...

I'm not sure if this is a real problem or not, but I don't think it's completely normal either. I posted something awhile ago, and the responce I got was dehydration. I'm not sure it's possible to be dehydrated for a year.
Anyway, my problem is that my stools come out in very small pieces, and are sometimes mucusy. Every once in awhile it is just a bit of mucus that comes out. It is sometimes straining to pass the movement, or hardly anything comes out. It is very, very, very rarely that my stools come out "normal."
I have NO abdominal pain or cramping or anything like that.

Again, this has been going on for at least a year.
Any ideas?

Thank you!

Re: Abnormal stools for over a year now...

i have had the same problem the past year. i think having a baby has something to do with mine though. not the mucus part. i have that alot, although i always am blowing my nose as well so it could just be that my glands in my nose just produce more right? i'm not sure but its worrying me a bit, thats why i'm looking up other peoples boards. thanks though yours helped

Thumbs up Re: Abnormal stools for over a year now...

Hi Nici

I don't know for sure what could be causing this. Possibly it's just something minor but it would be a good idea to get it checked out by your doctor.

Take care, Nadine

Re: Abnormal stools for over a year now...

I'm not sure how small is small, but I always mostly had dark harder small balls of stool (sometimes a little mucous). I ate alot of dairy and didn't each much fiber and drink much water. I had to push to get them out and didn't have a bowel movement every day (for most of my adult life).

I got hemorroids from the straining & finally learned to add water and fiber to my diet. My stools are now different (lighter color more light brown, softer, free flowing and longer).

See if that could be the problem. If not see a Gastroenterologist.

Good luck!
