Colonoscopy sedation question

My DH will be having his first routine colonoscopy this year sometime. We are already both a bit concerned about the sedation since he has never had any type of sedation for anything. Are there a lot of risks with the sedation they use for this? What were most of your experiences afterwards? Were you nauseaus or did you have vomiting? Dizzy? Drowsy for a very long period of time?

Thanks for any answers you can provide.

Nancy

Thumbs up Re: Colonoscopy sedation question

Nancy

I had a colonoscopy several years ago. I didn't have any sedation. I didnt have any nausea or dizziness afterwards. It was somewhat uncomfortable because I had a hysterectomy in 1985 and have a lot of adhesions. I hope everything goes well for your son-in-law.

Re: Colonoscopy sedation question

the sedation I had left no nausea or problems (I get very sick with general anesthsia). I told the doctor my concerns beforehand and he said the stuff they use is different.

Re: Colonoscopy sedation question

I had sedation and it was wonderful. I was out like a light...next thing I knew the procedure was over and I was awake in the recovery room.

I had no nausea nor vomiting.

Re: Colonoscopy sedation question

I agree with Alesis (is that from the musical gear co.?). I have had scopes at both ends, and was sedated for both. Once the needle is in (that's my biggest problem), it was lights out. Then awake in recovery . But I don't remember the ride home (I wasn't driving) or getting into bed. After recovery, the last thing I remember was waking up in my bed. No nausea, dizziness, or any problems.

Re: Colonoscopy sedation question

Thanks so much to all of you for your help. I seldom see DH nervous about anything like this, but the sedation part has him a bit worried since he has never received any meds like this before.
