can i take colyte without it being prescribed by a doctor?

Welcome to Healthboards!!

Colyte is an osmotic type laxative and is --polyethylene glycol 3350 --that draws liquid back to the colon - softening your stool and making it easier to pass. It is the same as Mirilax that is sold OTC without a prescription.

Other osmotic laxavitives that are available and cheaper are Citrate of Magnesia, Milk of Magnesia, Epson salt and Ducolax.

As you may already know it will clean you out so follow the directions and don't use it too often.
