| Probs with bowel movements after surgery
Hi there - I've been reading up on this site for a few weeks now and wonder if anyone can help.
My husband (age 55) had major bowel resection with open surgery on Jan 7th (all of sigmoid colon and part of rectum removed). In the beginning the recovery seemed pretty slow, but now he's coming along in leaps and bounds.
However, he constantly feels like he needs to go to the toilet - sometimes 3-4 times an hour. He cant usually pass stools - only every 1-2 days, but passes clear mucus. He's been given Loperamide to slow the system down, which kinda works, but doesnt seem to be totally reliable.
I've tried looking online to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this, do you know what's causing it and what can be done to stop it? He's been signed off for another 2 weeks but it rather dreading going back to work when he doesnt know when he has to go and whether it'll be pee, poo, wind or mucus.
Any suggestions gratefully received. thanks
