Question stool/blood issue

Since I was on oral antibiotics in Jan for an intestinal infection/flare up, I haven't had a "normal" bowel movement. I am on no meds at present time. A normal bowel movement (stool shape), meaning prior to January. My stool progressively got more solid, but never real solid and normal in shape like I was used too. Currently my stool can be thin, broken/loose looking at times, and closer to diarhea in appearance.....a real mixed bag so to speak. At times there may be a bright red (small) streak of blood on the toilet paper. At times I feel as though I need to have a bowel movement, but I already had one earlier and there is no need. This feeling is annoying!

Could this be internal hemroids, IBS, CC, or any of the above? My health is good in general. ANyone else have similar symptoms?

Re: stool/blood issue

Hello,
I have a post under colon cancer..(not to scare you). My daughter was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer at age 24 (last year).
Are you constipated? Do you feel as if you have to go and then can't? I'm just sharing our experience as a way to help others. She went misdiagnosed for 2 years. I would suggest a colonoscopy. It's painless, is a breeze and could not hurt to have one.

My daughter and I laugh how all the pamphlets in the colon/rectal surgeons office say.."if you're a male 50 years or over you could be a risk for colon cancer." There is no family history with us. How I wish I would have searched the internet or these particular boards 2 years ago.

Blood in the stool or around the area can be hemorrhoids or fissures which come from straining. Either way, it's always a good idea to get it checked out. Like I said...I wish I would have forced my daughter to have a colonoscopy years ago...even though right up until the last minute we were told by the GI doctor.."oh, don't worry, I don't think this could be cancer."

I don't mean to scare anyone. My mission is to help others through sharing our story. Oh, weight loss is also an issue. My daughter lost 30lbs but was working out with a trainer 3x a week. Little did we know.

I wish you well.

Re: stool/blood issue

NO weight loss here. I plan on making an appt with a doctor to discuss, and get a physical for the year. I've noticed people diagnosed with hemroids that they sometimes have a feeling of having a sensation to have a bowel movement. I have no constipation.

Re: stool/blood issue

Hello again from Florida. I'm glad you read my post.

Just in case..if you are diagnosed with hemorrhoids...I just had a hemorrhoidectomy 3 weeks ago. I had one scheduled a year ago and read absolute HORROR stories on the internet so I cancelled the surgery. A year later, I decided since I was going in for a colonoscopy a few weeks ago, to have them removed. IT WAS A BREEZE. I was in bed for a day. I was up walking around day 2. Week 2, I was back at work. I had them surgically removed..not banded. I was so scared..but a liquid diet a week prior to the surgery and a liquid diet a week after the surgery made going to the bathroom no problem at all.

Good luck

Re: stool/blood issue

Does anyone else have the annoying symptom of feeling like you have to deficate constantly? Is this a common symptom of hemmroids (maybe internal hemmroids? I have the feeling like I have to go, but I had my bowel movement earlier in the day w/o problems. I'm pretty sure I'm not constipated.

Yes this is a symptom of hemroids, and its exactly what I have at the moment.

You don't necessarily need to be constipated to get hemroids, you just need to strain.
You may also want to get your doctor to examine your rectum just so he can confirm that it is only hemroids.

Re: stool/blood issue

Is occassional itching at the rectum a common symptom of hemmroids? Its almost like a burning itch that last for a few minutes, then wanes off. This itch often shows itself after deficating.

Can gas be a symptom of hemmroids? Has anyone experienced that?

Re: stool/blood issue

Again yes it is a very common symptom of hemroids. Using specialised hemroid cream will help relieve the itching.

Re: stool/blood issue

Shear, i am wondering: "Quote"

Do you think it's a possibility for them to have missed something like this with a colonocopy?I have alot of the same things as someone you responded to on here with abnormal stools but recently i had a stools test, still waiting for results as i ither have yellow or clay color and for the last three days i had blood and bloody mucus. I am also awaiting an abdominal CT scan. I read this is not usual for IBS ( but maybe not unheard of)in wich after colonoscopy GI dr. wrote. My Dr. says if it was parasite then i would have more watery type stools mostly and if it was blockage somehwere then no stool at all. I am getting very worried and only because i have lost like 30-40 pounds in a 2-3 few months and 6 pounds in the last two weeks, my mom is also very concerned.I only know this because i went to the dr.s two weeks ago and weighed 148-149 and now i weight 142and i have cut out coffee(didn't drink much really last few months )and no more chocoalate but i drink the heck out of pop. And i am not really eating any less only certain days and other days i make up for this. And here lately soemtimes i have a bowel movement right after eating and go of and on all day and then i will go a day without and it doesn't matter what i eat but inthe begginging what sent me to the GI was i would feel the need to go but couldn't and wouldn't go fro like a week. The only other thing i can think of is maybe laxatives messed my system up but i only took to docolax in a two weeks time after colonoscopy but i don't believe it would change my stool color or maybe the tests messed me up as i had really bad stomach aches and crampy after but they went away but it's sometimes the same feeling as then. Sorry so long but if i can get some support from anyone right now isthe time as per weight loss i am very very concerned more than i was! I am also down to one pain pill a day and dealing withit as i am worried it maybe a factor is some areas and i know it can't hurt to do with all this going on! I have narrowed this down as being possibly at the least an umbilical hernia they spotted (wich i don't believe would cause abnormal stool color) and ovarian cysts( had these really cecked out) or thyroid meds or worse cancer! One way or the other this will all get figured out i know because i see a surgeon tommorrow for hernia and the OB Dr. is supposed to go in at the same time to check out the cysts or for lesions possibly! I would say some of it maybe stress related but not bowel color orblood right! Again sorry so long just want to be able to enjoy life as it was!

Re: stool/blood issue, Update...

Hey all i haven't posted in a while and just wanted to update you as to what has been going on recently! I have went to the Dr. to find out my tests results for the stool and was all negative(but didn't have blood till afte rthis) and should be having the abdominal CT done this week. The GI dr. seems very caring with all this thats going on! Here lately i still have blood and mucous going on. I saw the surgeon for the hernia and he says it's an incisional hernia from when i had my tubes tied long ago and recommended having surgery to repair. Although he states he doesn't believe this is the cause for the blood i read on the internet only one site that it can cause this but who knows i guess better to get this fixed! I also am going to decide after the CT scan as to make sure nothing else could be causing this. And here today i had really dark stool so that concerned me but oh well will just have to wait and see what becomes of the scan! So there you have it story of my life! I hope everyone else is doing okay!
Love, Monkey

Re: stool/blood issue

After seeing my Family Med Dr, it was confirmed I have hemmroids - causing the intermittent blood streaks on tissue paper. Also, for my onset of reflux/heartburn symptoms he prescribed me Prilosec. The Prilosec has definately helped in the belching arena - as that has cut way down. As far as the heartburn, the medicine has somewhat improved that, but I still battle that. I am trying to veer away from foods/drinks that inflame the situation.

Re: stool/blood issue

Here is an update on my personal bowel journey. I ended up deciding to get a referral over to a GI Dr. That Dr had me run blood tests and get a stool sample, and I demanded a colonoscopy which he thought was reasonable.

Here is the story...

I just finished going through MoviPrep for my colonoscopy yesterday evening...that was a real treat! The taste is a mix of pine sol and alka seltzer in my humble opinion. I chugged that down and within an hour was hitting the stool every 20 minutes. It works fast and besides a poor taste wasn't the worst thing I've experienced-just annoying.

Now forward to present time, my Dr calls early in the AM to give the stool sample results. I am positive for C. Diff, which is an infection that is gaining steem these days. If you are not familiar with it, search it on the net. The Dr see's no reason for me to go through the colonoscopy with this positive test result in my stool sample. I am to get on some antibiotics and watch the progress over the next few weeks to see if I improve. The Dr said if we see no improvements, we can than look at getting a colonoscopy. I reluctantly agreed, as I have already gone through the prep for nothing. Since they have some hard evidence, I didn't fight his opinion.

Thats my story for now.

Re: stool/blood issue

My last stool test showed negative for C-Diff after a round of Flagyl. I went a few weeks and continued to have moderate problems with my bowel movement and stomach cramping. My stool continued to be somewhat pale with a little blood at times. The stomach cramping was very mild and more a nuisance than anything.

That being said I pushed for a colonoscopy, and that was completed yesterday. The GI Dr called back saying the scope looked good, very normal. They did take biopsies to check for microscopic colitis, and he would call back with the results.

I am happy nothing serious has been found in there, and hopefully this will pass with time. C-Diff can do a number on your intestinal flora, and hopefully time is the medication I need.
