Can't Poop - Bowel Disorders Message Board

Well, just like the title says, I really can't poop. I have been trying to lose weight and I eat very healthy and exercise. I also drink atleast 64 ounces of water per day. I recently tried taking laxatives and those didn't do much. When I try to go to the bathroom, I have to push very hard and even then, I only get a tiny amount out. I would appreciate any help.

You sound so much like me. Though I've been this way the majority of my life, laxatives don't help me either. How is your fiber level? Do you eat lots of fiber or take fiber pills? I would suggest that because fiber is a great "pooper goer" haha. Also if your on any medications that you've been on for a long time this can affect it. That is my case. I've been on amitriptyline for 7 years which I'm trying to get off of, not being able to poop being a reason. Doctors also have been having me take 4 tablespoons of milk of magnesia every other night before bed and I've noticed this has loosened me up if I keep at it. It's nasty stuff but if you can choke it down, it gives reliefe. Hope this helps some!
