Hello,

i wasn't put to sleep when i had my colonoscopy. I was certainly sedated but i remember everything including watching the whole event on a small screen put next to my head.

Just curious, why the fear of being anesticized?

It is better that they do. Do not worry. Just imagine yourself that you have had a big day and it is time to go to bed, naturally. Just relax yourself before they start and when they administer the sedation (i do not think it is an anesthetic), it will be over before you know it. Do not worry one bit about it.

To answer your question -- You can request the doctor not for you to be put sleep.

For some people a colonoscopy is uncomfortable and can cause some pain.

Hi..i had the same fear when i needed to have one done. I was so fearful that i put it off for 3 years. After suffering for so long with my bowel problem, i finally got up the nerve and scheduled an appt. with a GI doctor. I told him about my fear and he said i didn't have to be put out completely. After everything said and done i ended up being lightly sedated, which was due to feeling the air being pumped in my colon. It caused some pain. I was able to briefly watch some of it on the video screen. I'm so glad i faced my fear and got the test over with.
