Exclamation teen needs advice on oily stools..and eating disorder??

Let me just start out by saying I have an eating problem. I don't know exactly what to call it..anorexia is the only thing that comes to mind, but I don't think that's it..because I eat a little..eh... but for a short while I started taking a few diet pills..not the maximum amount but 2 a day for about a week.. well I recently was pretty much forced to stop because my appetite is completely messed up.. but the problem that is making me post this is the fact that beginning just yesterday, I have been experiencing very foul smelling, loose oily stools, where the oil floats at the top. I've done a little browsing about this topic but couldn't find one to fit my situation so I'm just posting this. I think it was the diet pills. I'm not overweight. I'm too young to be taking those pills. I know I'm bad. I shouldn't have done that, and know one knows about it. I just don't know what to do.

Re: teen needs advice on oily stools..and eating disorder??

First of all, you are not bad. You just made a bad decision. Yes, there is a big difference between the two, and we all make bad decisions now and then. Stop taking the diet pills. If your stools don't change after a day or two; or if you notice anything else unusal going on with your health, get to a doctor.
Second, you can be anorexic and still eat. Eating very little can be a symptom of anorexia. If you can not begin to eat normally, i.e. it causes severe anxiety or depression. Then you need to seek help immediately. I would recommend that you seek help no matter what. You obviously have things that need to be dealt with, which you are trying to do with the controlling of food. (just my opinion)
Either way, take care of yourself and good luck. I hope all turns out well for you.

Hey, Just to re-assure you. There is nothing wrong with taking diet pills

However, i suggest you consult a pharmacist or GP about taking these pills.

For now I'll explain a bit about the actions of these pills. Simply put when you eat fatty foods, the fat is stored as fat (same goes for carbohydrates).

So, when you take these pills...they prevent your body from taking in fats you eat (prevents fat digestion). Since your GI tract has its own microflora [normal bacteria present in your stomach and intestines] (esp in your large intestine where there is little oxygen - results in the foul smell) stools because its fat that comes out as its not digested.

Some diet pills are: xenical (know for sure that this one does the action i described above) and lipovox (i think)

Alternatively you can try reductil -> this one is different my making you feel full when you eat. (but that means you still have to watch out on what you eat).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just read more clearly about your concern.

A few things:
-Taking these pills can affect the way you eat (depending on what ones you take).
-One solution is to stop taking the diet pill and see if your appetite improves
-Next time when you decide to take a drug, i suggest you find out more about what the drug
does.

Few Possible causes of your eating disorder:
-stress
-depression
-anxiety
-inflamed (damaged) GI tract -> associated with intense pain in the abdominal region [see a doctor].

But, no need to be alarmed. since you said you took the diet pills i'm sure that is the cause of these side effects (unavoidable if you take it).

Re: teen needs advice on oily stools..and eating disorder??

For the eating disorder, there are only a few main types.
Anorexia Nervosa
BED -- Binge eating disorder
Bulemia

The main factor in which one you have is whether or not you purge after meals. Also, there is an illness called exersize bulemia, in which u feel you are addicted to a gym so to speak, spending hours on the treadmill or other peice of equipment.

As for the descriptions of each illness, i have given you the names so i assume you can do an internet search to find the specifications and symptoms. It would be too much for me to list it all on this post.
