any new/recent testimonials on the hemmorhoidectomy procedure/post op/recovery - Bowel Disorders Message Board

trying to make a decision to go through with a 3 quad hem-ectomy, with stage 3/4 hemmi's internal and external. i have read so many scary stories, about the healing process. I'm not a whimp (gave birth to a 9 and 11 pound babies, years ago), but i have my concerns about the pain i currently have, vs. the pain i might go through with surgery, and the inability to have control over my own body for a period of time....and possibly have more to worry about afterwards. (drainage, having to wear pads, an enlarged sphinctor). i'm just scared. i'm just trying to learn ALL i can, before i either go forward with the surgery, or cancel it and just live with my current discomfort. thanks to anyone and all that may feel like responding/or repeating their story. I'm 47.

I had the surgery 30 years ago but I didn't have a choice, I was hemorrhaging so bad I was in intensive care. There's no other way to put it, the surgery is a tough one. Back then at least you got to stay in the hospital with iv pain meds but now they send you home right away. My recovery was slow but after I recovered I was glad I had it done. For me the area always stayed sort of tender. Just recently I had surgery for an anal fissure and that is still tender. I read other people's stories too and got really scared but in the end I had to decide for myself and I went with the surgery. That's what you're going to have to do, just weigh the pros and cons and ask yourself if you have a good quality of life or are you in so much discomfort it's affecting your daily life.
