soft stool with blood and mucus

About 1.5 years ago I picked up food piosioning which developed into a nasty case of gastroenteritus. I had a long saga of dirreaha which at times had blood in it. I lost a lot of weight and ended up in hospital with it. I was referred to a gastroentroligist who performed 3 colonoscopys over the following year. She never really found the cause and I always got the feeling that she was just blindly throwing antibiotics at me.

Over a long period I made a recovery, or at least what feels like a 95% recovery. Ever since then my stools have been fairly soft, thin at times, but no real dirreaha. I also have quite a bit of gassiness and hemoriods which never went away but dont really irritate anymore, although the do come out when i have a movement. I have improved my diet and lifestyle enorumsly. I feel in perfect helath! Appatite is normal, and energy levels are good. I'm even training to run a half marathon.

However this week im noticing blood (and a little mucus) which comes at the end of a movement and seems fairly fresh. The volume isnt a lot and it seems to be mixed with the stool. I recently did get little dots of totally fresh blood on the tissue which i know are directlyly from the hemorroids. I really dont want to go back to the 'specilist' who will perform more nasty examinations and probably find nothing and then proceede to flood my body with nasty antibiotics. Since her efforts last time were totally fruitless! She never gave me any advice on diet and lifestyle despite me asking a numerous occations...

Does anyone know any reasons for this kind of thing? Could it be due to hemorroids irritation on the inside? How come it only seems to come at the end of the movement? Maybe there is a food intolerance involved here? Is there an alternative medical practicioner i could see? Any insights would be appreciated

Re: soft stool with blood and mucus

Blood at the end of a bowel movement means it's coming after the strain invoked on the system by the bowel movement. This is very common in both hemorrhoids or anal fissures. Blood that appears BEFORE the bowel movement usually signifies it's coming from farther up the digestive track, not toward the anus itself.

I have the same issues you do, and have regularly. I am also going to a specialist on the 9th because of increased frequency attributed with these two other symptoms. I'd say find another doctor. There has to be more than one Gastroenterologist in your neck of the woods, right?
