Re: pain after hemorrhoid banding

Well I feel for you majorpayne. As I am sure you read this is terrible. My pain level has gone down but not enough to get off the meds. I however am on percocet and cannot drink with them--I considered it. As I posted on another thread--I have spoken with my attorney today and they plan on getting him for malpractice, breech of informed consent, and battery. As far as I am concerned, He should never practice again. This thread (and scarlett) has helped me so much get through the pain. I am moving now--slowly. Only about 15 minutes then back in the chair. Nights are still not too good--wake up in the middle for a pill. I am hoping to get these down and find out the outcome of this all. (lawyer says if surgery is needed, $$$$$) Not that $$ helps my bum now. Keep us posted on how your doing and we will be praying for you! SOAK< SOAK< SOAK!! Can't stress that enough. Put some epsom salts in the water, about a cup or so in the tub, helps them dry up. 2.5% hydrocortisone cream helps too. Hang in there my friend--this too will end!!

Hey, just wondering how you are doing. I hope much better. I had read an old post from Harry and he mentioned the cream, Rectal Medicone, and how it was very good. You have to order it online, since I can't post web sites, just do a search for it. I ordered some. I went to Wal-Mart and spent a small fortune, Miralax, magnesium citrate, colace, senekot, tucks, guaze, overnight pads, ointment, ibuprofen, epsom salts, and various soft foods that is high in fiber. I hope I am prepared.

Check on you later. Blessings

Sounds like you are very prepared! Just remember don't over do it. Just eat right and rest and make sure you let us know how you are!
I am off the meds since yesterday and they are shrinking finally but taking their time. Still feeling very exhausted but did manage to get out to the yard today. Waiting for thursday to see the doc and hoping on an outcome.
Don't be nervous and remember we are praying for you! I said a pray in church for you today! You are going to do fine!!

I was thinking about you today--keeping you in my prayers--you will do fine!!! Let me know how everything goes.
I am off the pain killers and was on flagyl and let me just say that is the worst medication ever!!! Made me want to die. I stopped it yesterday after 7 days. I couldn't take it anymore. I haven't eaten in days and last I checked I have lost 14 lbs total since this started. I go through bouts of depression that alter with anger for that doctor doing this to me. This was so unfair for both of us. I hope you will get the treatment you need tomorrow and finally feel better. I am trying to hang in there!! Good luck and keep me posted!

Re: pain after hemorrhoid banding

I have had 3 done at 3 sepatate times, I was told by my doctor that the most important thing was to be fully awake during the procedure. This way if there was pain you could tell him so he could move the bands to another area of the hemorrhoid. I was awake, the procedure was not painfully, a little uncomfortable, took only a couple of minutes. I felt heavy pressure like I was real constipated for about 2 days.

Hemorrhoid Banding - Pain and No Pain

For anyone reading, I thought I'd post my experience. I am 51 and have had hemorrhoids since I was 15 or 16 years old. They have been manageable my whole life...but about 9 months ago they began bleeding badly and prolapsing badly. In July, I had had enough.

Since I live in an urban area, I have options. I have friends who have has the traditional surgery and I am SCARED TO DEATH of that option...so this is what I did.

I found a center that performed Ultriod. I had 5 treatments and then one IRC. It helped with the bleeding, and shrank my hemorrhoids but lucky me had 7...yes, 7 hemorrhoids. 3 monsters and 4 big ones. The Ultroid and IRC didn't work, as in eliminate them. Just so you know. I had so much bleeding after the IRC, I thought I'd need a transfusion! I did end up having to have an iron infusion...lucky me.

The good news is that the Ultroid and the IRC shrank my hemorrhoids enough to allow me other options. My Ultroid was performed by a doctor who was not a colorectal surgeon but was specially trained for the procedure and had done thousands of them. She was very good and understanding.

After the 2+-months of painless treatments with Ultroid and IRC, I went to a colorectal surgeon and had a thorough exam. She said I am the worst case she has ever seen in her practice. She examined me, had me dress again and then talked to me about my options.

She said I was a prime candidate for hemorrhoidectomy because my case was so severe in size and quantity (lucky me). She told me she would be willing to treat me with banding to see if that would help make my hemorrhoids manageable. She told me that the hemorrhoidectomy is one of the most painful surgeries with the recovery being long and painful. I appreciated her honesty.

I asked that if I did the banding and it was not successful, would I still have the option of the surgery and she said yes. She also told me that she only bands one hemorrhoid at a time and that my case is so severe that instead of the usual three bandings that are done, I may need up to 6 (with a slight chance of more). She recommended 2 to 4 weeks between banding depending on how I felt.

This past Tuesday, I had my third banding done. I'd like to share my experience so far.

Banding number 1 - I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. Or more appropriately, I wanted to die!. I immediately went back to work and it was okay. She gave me no pain meds but warned me that I may have pain due to the severity of my case. I was uncomfortable but okay. Didn't sleep well but slept-in and went to work late the next day. No BM until that night. THEN THE PAIN KICKED IN after the BM. I had bad constipation. I called and she called in Vicodin for me. It barely touched the pain. For 5 days, I was in horrid pain...then on day 6, it subsided. It was bearable and after day 8, I felt ok. By the way...soaking did nothing for me.

Banding number 2 - I scheduled time off from work, stocked up on juice, fiber, soup and pain meds...and guess what...no pain, nothing. Ended up going on to work and was worried that she missed and nothing was banded! I had a little bleeding on day 6 when the roid fell off, but that was it. To say I was happy is an understatement .

Banding number 3 (4 days ago) - I immediately went back to work and was worried from the start...I was in pain. Took a pain med and it subsided. I have been really good with fiber and my diet now and it ha helped. Water is very important. I am in moderate pain, but it is tolerable. Didn't sleep much the first two nights but it is better now. Today I feel okay...the pain in minimal but I am on pain meds. I can go out and have been going to work.

In general, everything seems to be going okay. My hemorrhoids are smaller and hardly no bleeding. This 3rd banding has seemed to irritate one of my remaining hemorrhoids and it seems to have swelled up and is giving me a problem. I'm not worried because she warned me.

I told my doc I think I might be getting a little better because I went one whole day last week without thinking about my butt. Oh, what my life has come to - lol.

So...all this to say that I am enduring all of this in the hopes of avoiding the surgery. I don't know if it'll work and it is painful but bearable. Since I have been doing all this since July (4-months), I'm probably nuts since the surgery is a 4 to 6 week downtime and I have probably 2 to 3 months more of this banding and possible pain.

My sympathy to everyone...and anyone out there who can pray for me that this will work and I won't have to have surgery...please do so.

Any questions about Ultroid, IRC and banding will be happily answered. I'm an almost an expert at this point...

My thoughts and prayer to everyone enduring the pain of hemorrhoids. Since I've lived with them my whole life and they basically didn't bother me, I had no idea what all the complaints were about. Now I know. It controls your life and makes it hard to concentrate or have a normal life. I'd really like my life back.

I had various blood tests done, chest and abdominal x -rays and urinaylsys and abdominal, rectal and testicular examination all tests came back looking relatively normal as did my BP,pulse and temperature.I am still in lot of pain and discomfort and feeling bit nauseated and seen my own gp today who gave me course of cipro in case i have epididymus which i have had few times in past and to go to A&E if my symptoms get worse.Wondering what i should do next has anybody else had testicular pain or felt bit unwell after banding as i keep on reading should be relatively pain free unless serious complications going on, any help much appreciated, paolo.
In my research and unfortunately personal experience, it totally depends on the patient. I will never have that done again and I wouldn't of had it done if I knew then what I know now. Doctors seem to know very little unless they are colon rectal specialists. I have great surgeon now-wish I had him at the beginning. In my experience...the banding procedure is very risky and lots of things can happen with it. I think it should be outlawed!!!! I of course was told I am the rare one and had very major complications from my banding. The placement of the banding is very important which is where my problems started. And the rest went from there. I hope your troubles are over soon-I was off my feet and in pain for 1 month until I could resume normal activities. I will never do it again!! Mind you I have had 4 children and days of labor (without meds) and this was that x 20!!!!! Wish you well

I read all over the internet that most people who do this procedure are fine and feel ok, but just to let you know there is a possibility of severe pain. I hope it's all worth it in a few days!
I just had one removed this morning, and the pain is excruciating. I feel like I am having the worst menstrual cramps, with a sharp, pointy object up my butt for good measure. It's hard to pee. I am wondering how long it was before the pain stopped for you? I Took a vicodin an hour after the procedure, two aleve an hour later, than another vicodin 4 hours later and two baths. I still feel terrible. Is there hope? Thanks for any response you might offer.

Re: pain after hemorrhoid banding

I am on day 6 of my first banding (2 more to go). Not sure if I'll go back. Day 1 was very painful. The other days are just VERY uncomfortable. The problem that I am facing is that I have SO much pressure on my bowels and bladder. I feel like I constantly have to go. When I urinate, the hemorrhoids pressure out, when I have a bowel movement, there is pressure on my bladder.
I jump right in the shower afterwards to relieve pressure and that helps, but an hour or two later I am back in the same position.
I am having about 4 or more bowel movements a day. I constantly feel so much pressure in both areas. This is my concern.
I go back to work tomorrow and will have to wear sweat pants because I want e.thing loose.
I am starting to have great concerns. ANY help or insight would be appreciated
Cathy

Re: pain after hemorrhoid banding

I would wear loose and comfortable pants. Try soaking in the tub in place of the shower-it does wonders. Do it before you leave and when you get home. During the workday try not to sit or stand for a long period--change position. Although you have pressure, it is better than not being able to go. Try to eat high fiber to keep things loose!! Good luck and hang in there!!!

Re: pain after hemorrhoid banding

I was booked in by my doctor to see a consultant for a bleeding bottom, whom I saw 1.5 days ago, I assumed for an initial chat. He didn't speak much English. I lay on my side so he could examine me, he did a quick probe with finger, then said he was going to put a telescope or something up. Then he said he was done (less than 1 minute total) and told me to get dressed. He then told me he had fitted a hemarroid band, didn't tell me or ask or anything in advance! I didn't even know I had a hem before I went in as doc couldn't find any, though knew it was quite likely. It has felt aching since, but tonight (2:40am) cannot sleep cos of tummy ache. I rubbed anus to try and stimulate poo for about 20 mins and a fair bit of wind came out but no bm. I then ate some muesli and took 2 nuerofen (ibuprofen). It has subsided a bit now.

My muscles all feel really taught around scrotum as though they've been pulled hard and bum has dull ache. My pain pain though is a tummy ache more so than at the site of the band, enough to reawaken me after I eventually fell asleep. Is this normal?

Hello, not only does it sound normal, but if you read back sounds like my visit. No warning, however I had much more pain!! It's good if you only have an ache. Keeps up the motrin and soak as much as you can, helps the healing. The tightness will go away once it falls off. Up your fiber so that when you do have a bm, it will be soft on it's way out. Last thing you want right now is a hard stool!!! Good luck and hang in there, it takes time to heal

Re: Hemorrhoid Banding - Pain and No Pain

I have been researching the Ultroid procedure, and it looks like a good option. Question- it seems to be able to treat pretty bad cases of hemorrhoids. So why did you opt for the banding?
