how is a fistulatomy performed

Sincerely
I'm having a fistulotomy done in two weeks, I'm so afraid. I don't do well with pain. When my abscess was first drain, it was terrible, very painful. two months ago I had a seton inserted, this wasn't painful at all. But my doctor tells me fistulatomy will be more painful because it will entail more cutting. Has anyone had a fistulatomy, if so, how difficult was it to do the dressing? anyone had the seton inserted before the fistulatomy, if so, how much more painful is the fistulotmy. Many thanks for your responses.

Re: how is a fistulatomy performed

Our son had an abscess on buttock which was a fistula leading to rectum. After finally finding an experienced physician in these matters, a Seton was inserted. It took about 8 to 12 weeks I think, but the fistula closed and healed, thus avoiding surgery. Where was your abscess?
