Question Rectal Bleeding

I'm 52 years old and had a colonoscopy in October 2006 which showed nothing but hemorrhiods, both internal and external. At the time they weren't bothering me, but that summer they started bleeding off and on and in December 2007, I had rubber band ligation done on them. Everything was fine for about 6 months then the rectal bleeding returned. I went back to the proctologist that did the banding and he said he thought there was a small internal one and saw some external skin tags. He told me to up my fiber, water, and take metamucil. I've been doing all these things and am still getting the rectal bleeding. It seems to be coming move frequently now. It's bright red and is on the toilet tissue, in the water and sometimes streaked on the ouside of the stool. It seems to happen when I first open my bowels. If I have to go again an hour or so later, there's no blood. There's really no pain, just some slight burning and my rectum is sore.

I have an appointment with the gastro. doctor for next Friday. Do you think there's any chance that it could be cancer when I got a clear colonoscopy (not even polyps) less than 2 and a half years ago? I'm scared!

Re: Rectal Bleeding

There is very little chance the bleeding could be cancer. Usually colon exams are done every 5 years if it normal.

I wish you well---Harry

Re: Rectal Bleeding

Could it be a fissure. Doesn't sound like colon cancer. For your peace of mind get checked out.
