Hi
I have ibs and diverticular diease and am often constipated for up to a week at a time. I was fed up of being in pain so decided to try and help myself as docs were useless. I dont like vegetables so decided to buy a juicer. I highly reccomend it for anyone with constipation problems.Consume as much green leafy veg as you can. I have carrots, spinach, mint, brocoli, pineapple and apples made into a drink every day, i also started drinking as much water as i can, gave up white bread for wholemeal and tried not to consume too much junk food as this can constipate you. Since i started on the above i go reguarly every day, if i let things slip for few days im constipated again, so i have learnt to stick with the above as it really works for me. Hope this helps as really worked for me. Good luck

Good advise from Dee.

Natural laxatives and stool softeners as well as those already in fruit and vegetables Dee mentions are:-

Ispaghula husk (pregnant women can take it it's so harmless)

Olive oil (no chemicals in that, children can take it at all ages)

Water (as long as it's pure)

If you combine those with the fruit and veg I don't see how you couldn't be regular. Good luck.

Get yourself some magnesium supplements. If you are on any type of medication, that could cause constipation too. Try to stay away from the BRAT foods. Bananas, rice apples & toast (breads). Cheese can constipate you too. Get some fiber in you and drink lots of water and exercise. Walking helps get things moving.
