recovering after surgery..

I just had anal surgery to remove polyps in the anal canal and near the rectum. I surprisingly have very little pain. My doctor told me I should avoid working out for four to six weeks after the surgery. This seems a bit extreme to me. I like to lift weights and run on the treadmill. Right now I am not bleeding after using the restroom. There are only slight pink traces on the wipe. It has been three days since the surgery. Would there be any harm in hitting the gym? Thanks
