docusate sodium(colace) vs miralax
I have been using docusate sodium under GI's orders for about a week now with fairly good results. I'm taking 200mg a day and should probably up it a little for optimal results. No bloating or discomfort so far. Stools have been softer and manageable. It's fairly cheap to buy here in Canada, $5.00 for 100, 100mg gel caps.
Miralax is not available commercially here but i have found another source which is pretty much identical. It's called Pegflakes(pure peg 3550). It is not sold in stores. It costs $24.95 for 500g plus shipping and taxes which would come out too about $36.00 and would probably be about a month's supply i would asumme. Quite a price difference between the two.
From what i have read on these boards, Miralax seems to be the prefered choice between these two. Why is that? It just works better for most? It's safer for long term use if needed? I'm interested in why as i might have to use a stool softener for sometime... I'm willing to go the other route if it's a better, safer choice.
