PPH SURGERY!!! Any positive results out there???? - Bowel Disorders Message Board

Help anyone!!!

Went to see the surgeon today about grade 3 internal hemorrhoids one quite large. I only have 1 small external one that does not even bother me. the internal ones do not hurt at all but bled only after a bm and had to be pushed back in. About 2 weeks ago they really started to bleed during every bm. they actually squirted and dripped blood until i pushed them back up and then they stopped. i called my gastro and he had me come in for a colonoscopy which i did and sent me to see a surgeon. He said i am an excellent candidate for the PPH surgery and I should get it done soon before my hemorrhoids get worse or become thrombosed. I have read some post here and am now scared to death. He said I would be in quite a bit of pain for about a week that would get better daily and be off for about 2 weeks maybe a bit less. He also said I would be working to get my BM's back in a regular cycle and to keep them soft . He did say I would have adeaquate pain meds and a muscle relaxer for spasms that occur in the area. So now the questions:

1. Any success stories out there?
2. Does any of this sound realistic
3. Is the pain constant?
4. Is only the first BM extremely painful
5. Can you sleep
6. How long before you can drive
7. What does the pain feel like

Thank you all so much for your input. My husband is facing back surgery and I need to get this done first so that I can take care of him.

By the way i am 52 years old and moderately over weight

See my post above regarding my surgery this week. I am not going to lie to you it is very painful and a pain that you have never experienced before but you can manage it.

Why don't you ask your doc about banding

I had my three internal hemmoroids banded and the procedure was very simple and not painful but just a dull ache which went away a few hours later.

I had internal hemmorroids like you that squirted blood and dripped.
I have not bled since I have had them removed.

I went to see a colon/rectal doctor.

The only point I would make with banding is, only ONE hemmoroid should be banded per session with approx. 3 weeks gap between.
I have heard if more than one hemmoroid is banded at once, it can then be more painful and longer recovery time.
