Can someone tell me what causes stools to float in the toilet stool? Is it anything serious? I haven't seen that before and just thought I would ask. Thanks!

It could be something serious. Your stool floats due to fatty contents. Have blood work done for your liver, bile ducts and gall bladder. If the stools are light in color, it could be your liver. Any pain? It could be just an infection also but do see a doctor if it continues. Some people with IBS have this sometimes.

If you mean pain in releasing the stool..no. I do have IBS. I had blood work about a year ago or less and everything was fine but I was just wondering. Some of the stool floats and some doesn't. That was what didn't make sense to me. when you say light in color, are you talking like a white color or yellow or light brown? When you say fatty content, does that mean eating too much high fat foods?

Also, is it true according to what you eat can cause stool to be different colors?

It's nothing serious . . . its a combination of factors.
