Question Colonoscopy after Diverticulitis

Is it usual to be offered one?I was in hospital for six days with a severe attack and was at the hospital for my 8 week follow up, but it was not suggested to me.

Re: Colonoscopy after Diverticulitis

I think it depends how old you are. Older people should have them more often, I think every 5 years. Or if you had cancer, my oncologist ask me how long it has been since I had a colonoscopy, when I told her three years, she told me I should have one again now, even though I had no colon cancer,
I had breast cancer.

Re: Colonoscopy after Diverticulitis

OK------ to all those who may be freaking out about having this procedure - DONT !!

I was more anxious about this than anything else I have ever been anxious about, and boy, what a doddle! Between receiving my appointment by post, and the actual date of the colonoscopy, I was admitted into the hospital, yet another diverticulitis attack I was told I would have it done whilst in the hospital - well, freak out time - I was quite happy to poop all day in my own bathroom, but not in a shared toilet on the ward. I had a good old cry, took the Picolax (vile) and waited. Result!

I was nervous wreck as I was wheeled into the room, was given the IV sedation which obviously worked instantly, and cannot recall a SINGLE thing about the whole event. I just remember being asked to scoot along back into my bed, when it was all over. I feel like the colonoscopy queen, bring it on!!!

Re: Colonoscopy after Diverticulitis

A colonoscopy procedure is no big deal. It is the preparation before which is so horrid.
