had surgery for rectal prolapse post op problems please help!!!!!!!!!

hi im new to this site and have read a lot of ur messages and can really sympathise with a lot of u . my problems started with piles which i had banded.after that i could never empty by bowels properly i was refered for tests which revealed i had a full rectal prolapse and prolapsed womb caused by the birth of my third daughter.i had surgery in november 2007 and after 5 days in hospital was home.things never seemed the same but my surgeon assured me they would in time and to use suppositories.i did this for over a year and then they stopped working.i saw my surgeon again he said i now had a prolapse in my lower bowel and needed another operation.i had that last september another 5 days in hospital and was home again but this time i was in agony the op was performed through my rectum and i felt like id been stitched up completely.now i never feel the sensation that i need to go.ive tried several laxatives which rarely work or leave me with stomach ache and wind.ive been taking prune juice which works but after a couple of visits to the toilet it gives me diahorea and stomach ache and i cant go out in case i need to go again .i have three daughters so am constantly in and out so can only take it eves or weekends so most of the time have stomach ache .im seeing my consultant again in march so want to tell him i cant live like this its ruining my life has anyone out there experienced the same or would recommend something else i can take im worried my colon isnt working properly as no sensation without the juice but really dont want to face another op . thanks to anyone who has taken the time to read this and who may be able to help:wave::wave:

sorry to hear you've been going through so much.

what is the rest of your diet like?

do you eat a lot of diary?

do you drink enough water every day?

have you tried stool softeners such as colace?

maybe try to avoid dairy products for a few weeks and eat lots of soft foods and plenty of veggies and fruits. maybe try eating some prunes instead of drinking prune juice

and if you don't feel any better make an appt with a specialist

hope you feel better soon

I have a grade 2 rectocele and no surgery yet. What has worked for me is eating lots of fiber and using Miralax. It's an over the counter laxative that helps me go regularly. If I don't go everyday it's horrible and this has helped me. It took Miralax a week before I got regular and I don't miss a night without taken it. I need to step up on taking in more water to help even more. I know how horrible this can feel. I'm so sorry your surgeries have not been successful. Maybe you should look into a second opinion this time around. Good luck to you.

No I don't need surgery at this time since I am managing ok by using Miralax. Probably some day I'll have to think about it but doing ok right now. I also wanted to mention that I was hesitant on using a laxative daily. I talked it over with both my OB/GYN and GP and both agreed it was safe for me to use on a daily basis. I feel better about that.
Good luck,
Molu
