Pool of blood in toilet bowl after passing stool. What could be wrong??
I'm 19 year old female. Generally considered v. healthy.

Today, I noticed a large amount of bright red blood in the toilet bowl after passing stools. (I wasn't straining)

This has never happened before and I'm very worried!

The most that has happened has been a small amount of blood on the toilet paper after straining a bit, but nothing at all like the amount of blood I saw today!!

In recent months I have been getting headaches quite often and also sometimes feeling tired more than usual. (possibly this is down to my exam stress but maybe it's all related.)

Any advice/ideas of what might be up would be greatly appreciated!! I'm heading the doctor at the weekend.

Any bleeding (esp for "no reason") should be addressed with your doctor. It could be anything from hemorrhoids to inflammatory bowel disease and really should be seen about ASAP. I'm glad you have a doc appt!

You are doing the right thing getting to the doctor. Most of time, something like what you describe ends up being hemorrhoids, which are very easy to treat with few exceptions.

Then you can look into a few dietary changes so that you do not experience straining.
