Friday I had a small sharp pain intermittently in my lower right tummy. It started getting a little worse and I thought it might be appendicitis. After a couple of hours I began having terrible, hard abdominal cramps...so hard that I would break into a cold sweat and get weak and nauseous. This went on for about an hour before I began feeling the urge to go. I began to think I may have contracted some kind of stomach bug. After several loose stools there was nothing much left to pass and when the cramps (lighter now) and urge came I would pass a couple of blood clots about the size of a quarter. Yesterday, I was still passing a small clot or two and every time I went to the bathroom there was a small amount of blood on the tissue. Today (Sunday) I have begun to have solid movements again, but there is still dark red blood kind of wrapped around the outside of the feces. I am no longer having cramps and everything feels about back to normal. This is my question: How long should I wait for the bleeding to stop before I begin to really be concerned? I know that hemorrhoids and some intestinal bugs can cause bleeding, but how long is too long?
