I went to the doctor after about 3-4 months of painful BM's. She told me, without examining me, that I have an anal fissure. It, actually, kind of went away on it own...only to return 2 weeks later. Regardless of this pain in the a$$ (no pun intended), I'm having some other problems.
I feel like my butt is constantly sweating. Not my butt..but my hole and crack. Leakage maybe? I don't know but it stinks. Not obscenly, but stinks more so than a clean butt should. More so than it has before...or so that I've noticed. Am I being parranoid or is there something wrong?
I also read about something called Anurex. They are basically plastic tubes you keep in the freezer and put in your butt a few minutes a day to keep swelling down. Anybody heard of or used these?
I have been experiencing the same thing as you. My fissure seems to come and go, sometimes its horrible, sometimes just an annoyance. I've also noticed the "leakage" but forgot to mention that to the docs. I am scheduled for surgery for the fissure next week. What have you been doing for the pain? Did you find those tubes that you freeze? I haven't heard of those before.
I just posted on the other fissure thread before seeing this one so please take a look as based on my recent experiences you might not have a fissure.
One of the symptoms that my second consultant explained to me can cause skin damage in/around your anus is a leaky bum. The enzymes in your waste cause the skin to become cracked and infected - like a manky athlete's foot sort of thing. The cracks can superficially look like a minor anal fissure and they certainly hurt like one.
One of the main reasons I sought a second opinion was that I felt the first consultant hadn't done a proper examination - he just spread my cheeks and had a prod with a finger. The second consultant did a proper sigmoidoscopy and had a good old look around.
I certainly wouldn't believe any doctor who can diagnose a problem without a proper examination.
ok...so I have been "dealing with" my butt problem. Come to find out...if I take Benefiber as directed, everything comes out ok. The fissure still hurts for a week or so but it's much easier to go to the bathroom. It went away for a good month or so and because I'm hard headed, I stopped taking the fiber. And what happened? My butt hurts again. So I'm on benefiber for life. YAY! But it seems to work so it's an easy fix as opposed to surgery in my eyes. Thought I would let everyone know what helped me. Good Luck in your endeavors!
