No painkillers for an anal fissure?

I was recently forced into going to my GI doc, where he diagnosed me with an anal fissure. This is one of if not the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. The doc said I don't want to give you anything that'll constipate you. The lidocaine crap is an interesting but it's not effective. I've got to live here I can't be completely impbilized for the next 3 weeks. Would another doctor make this same choice?
