Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

I had anal fissure for probably 4 years already. I'm almost 24 male. I went to a doctor and he told me to eat healthy , take sit baths but it doesn't seem to help. I read that if you have minor or moderator anal fissure then it can go away with that and sometimes cream. However, is it possible for someone who has anal fissure for 3-4 years for it to heal or is it impossible? Doctor told me most people have the 6 or 12 o clock and i had the 3 o clock one.

I have the blood when i wipe after bowel movements and sometimes that area feels like it is on fire. I also had a pilonidal cyst that i had a minor excision surgery for. Also, does anyone who have anal fissure have their butt cheeks discolored? My butt cheeks were blackish/purpish like bruised if you look at it. I am Asian. I have used some hydroquinone and now my buttcheeks look BRIGHT RED. When i went to my doctor today who told me to eat healthy etc, he was frustrated that i used the cream and even told me my butt cheeks are inflamed and he did not want to talk to me anymore.

He said he did not want to do surgery on me because i am still young.

Does anyone know what i should do? Is it possible or have you heard of anyone healing from anal fissure after having it for 4 years like for me? I know if you have it for few weeks, it can heal easily but i had it for a while.

Re: Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

your doc is ridiculous. are you just going to a GP? you need to see a colon and rectal surgeon. i recommend doing some research on ones in your area. look for ones that have great reviews and have been practicing for a long time.

i got several superficial cuts (really tiny fissures) after giving birth. i was only 22 at the time. i suffered in pain for over 2 years before asking my OBGYN for a referral to a colon and rectal surgeon. i did my research on him. he was highly recommended and had been practicing for 30 years.

at first he told me to go the metamucil and stool softener route for a few weeks before he performed surgery on me, and i tried it for a couple weeks but i had already tried this route before and didn't want to mess around. i was so ready for surgery.

i called him back and said i was tired of being in pain and i just wanted to get the surgery done.

i was quickly scheduled for LIS surgery. i have had no problems what so ever from it. my only regret was that i didn't get it done A LOT sooner. it was so easy peasy.

btw, i was 24 when i had the surgery done. so your age shouldn't be a factor. you have a fissure. why make u suffer. i would not continue to go to that doc.

just get the surgery done. you will be so thankful.

one thing i will advise though, is after you have the surgery and you take the painkillers MAKE SURE to take stool softeners and drink TONS of water or you will get constipated and that won't help you out at all

Hey. I am going to get a referral to see another dermatologist for my skin discoloration. It is very red now on my buttocks as oppose to darkish as before because of the 6 percent hydroquinone.

Should i also go and see a gastroenterologist because the doctor that saw my buttocks who is a surgeon didn't want to see me anymore and was fed up with me because i used hydroquinone? Is that the same as a colon and rectal surgeon?

a gastro is not the same as a colon and rectal surgeon.

just go to a colon and rectal surgeon. he/she will be able to tell right away what is going on

Re: Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

Hey everyone. I just went to another dermatologist. He saw my buttocks was still red and irritated from the hydroquininone. I told him about my story and he tells me the options for healing the discoloration is hydroquinone or Nd; Yag Laser. However, he tells me because i had the pilonidal cyst removed but still have anal fissure, he cannot do the laser procedure on me because the anal fissure has to be taken care of. Because if he does the procedure and the anal fissure continues, it would then make the skin go bad so the root of the problem has to be solved first. My other dermatologist did the minor pilonidal cyst surgery and said that would solve my problems and discoloration would get better but didn't

When i asked him whether he thinks its the anal fissure or pilonidal cyst that caused the discoloration, he says he does not know. He said it was most likely i had irritation from there. He tells me to see a surgeon first to take care of the anal fissure. I have been doing sitz baths the last week but i read it won't heal anal fissure if you had it for too long and i had it for probably 4 years at least. I had the discoloration for 4 years at least.

I am surprised that the dermatologist tells me he don't know the cause like the other dermatologist i saw. He saids its post hyperinflammatory pigmentation.

Does anyone know anything about the Nd: Yag Laser? He recommended me to use the hydroquinone after my redness in my butt area is gone and use it for 3 months but i really don't want to wait anymore.

Does anal fissure cause this post inflammatory hyperpigmentation? The surgeon i saw last time saw me and did not want to perform surgery on me for anal fissure because I am still young. But if i don't get anal fissure fixed... then how can i get the discoloration fixed?

Re: Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

please don't take this the wrong way, but i guess i'm not understanding why you are more concerned about the discoloration of your skin in that area than seeing a colon and rectal surgeon about the anal fissure

please don't be embarrassed about your anal fissure. they are a lot more common than you think and can be caused by a whole assortment of different reasons.

don't worry about your age either. like i said earlier, i was 24 when i had my surgery done.

the colon and rectal surgeon isn't going to care how old you are or how you got the fissure. their only concern is fixing you.

if i were you i would start googling colon and rectal surgeons in your area.

find one that is highly recommended and has been practicing for several years.

4 years is way to long to deal with a fissure. i dealt with mine for over 2 years and i was about to go insane by the 2nd year. i was not able to live a normal live. i was ridden with anxiety every single day and did not want to leave the house.

i wish i would have gotten the surgery so much sooner than i did. i am living a normal life once again. pain free. i have had no issues with incontinence of bowels or gas what so ever

Re: Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

hi. Even though i have anal fissure, i do not always have that pain. It just happens whenever i eat spicy or fried food in that day. If i don't i don't have that problem. I do occassionally have blood when i wipe but that is usually after an unhealthy meal. I would say i get the pain where my butt feels like it is on fire at most 4 days a month. It doesn't really bother me that much.

What do you mean it bothered you every single day? Did you have that pain i was describing every single day?

Re: Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

well yeah, most people with chronic anal fissures experience terrible pain every single day with every single bowel movement. it is very debilitating.

you must not have an anal fissure. are you sure you arent just experiencing normal pain after having diarrhea after eating spicy foods? sometimes if you go too many times in one day you can have a little bit of blood on the toilet paper after wiping. usually it goes away after a day or two. is that what happens to you?

Re: Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

Hey. No i don't have pain every single time i have a bowel movement. Its usually only happens when i eat spicy or fried food or junk food. Then when i walk ... my butt feels like it is BURNING.

If say i don't eat any spicy or junk food for 10 days in a row, i rarely will have that pain. yes what you described is what happens to me. It goes away in a few days the blood from the wiping after eating those foods. Then it comes back when i eat those foods.

What would be my condition then?? The surgeon i saw told me i had anal fissure and something like normal people have 3 o clock and i have a 6 o clock one?? Not sure if i flipped it around or not but i didn't have the normal clock one people with anal fissure have. Can you tell me what this means? I cannot see that surgeon anymore because he refuses to see me.

Re: Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

i would just say you have normal pain during bowel movements after eating spicy/irritating foods.

if it bothers you very much stop eating those foods, your body is trying to tell you that it doesn't need them

if you only experience the pain after eating spicy foods and it goes away after a couple days, i would say you do not have a fissure

sorry i can't be of much more help. go to a colon and rectal surgeon if you are really bothered by what is happening. he will definitely be able to tell you whether or not you have a fissure

Re: Anal Fissure for 4 Years Please Help!

Hi. Yes i went to a surgeon already. I went to him because of my butt discoloration and the first thing he saw was i had a pilonidal cyst and then he saw i had anal fissure. This was last year. He then told me to just eat lot of fiber and sitz baths. I had some minor surgery on my pilonidal cyst but nothing was done about my anal fissure.

I only get the anal fissure pain when i eat fat or spicy foods. He said my anal fissure was different from the normal one because it went to 3 and 9 o clock position as oppose to 6 and 12 o clock. Have you heard of something like that?

typically fissures are in the position he described but you can have them all around your sphincter. i had multiple superficial cuts all around my sphincter due to childbirth.

i'm not sure what to tell you though. just keep going to different specialists till you find your answer
