Trying to help my little one

Hello everyone, I am a single mom of a very pretty and smart 3 yr old little girl. As an infant she was diginosed with Colitis. Being that she is only still a baby I have not let them start her on meds and have controled her outbreaks with diet control... I fear that this may cause nurishment problems and am afraid of the long term side effects. In the past few months her pain levels have begun rising and I would like to know if there is anyone out there that could give me any tips on how to help control this better.... Thank You

Re: Trying to help my little one

by colitis, do you mean ulcerative colitis, crohn's colitis or microscopic colitis?

In what way are you controlling her flares with food? some symptoms can be controlled with food, but that doesn't guarantee she has no inflammation in her colon.

It's sad to hear your daughter has bowel disease...what were her symptoms when she was a baby?

Is she on any vitamins?

I would suggest for sure that you give her probiotics. There are some for kids, although I don't know which ones off hand.

Re: Trying to help my little one

Does she have a malapsorption issue? Where she can't digest fat? Then you may need to consult a GI specialist and see about digestive enzymes, otherwise your child isn't getting proper nutrition or fat soluable vitamins necessary for growth.
