Unhappy Life changed forever after coffee enema (detox), now become Colonic inertia

Hello everyone,
I'm a new poster to this board but have read and visited this website for a while.

I'm 29. I live in Thailand. I now have perfect colonic inertia. I have been miserable with this symptoms for 6 years.

I was born very healthy, having perfect colon and bowel movement.
When I was young, there might be sometimes got constipated but finally could make my evacuation myself well everytime.

Being constipated sometimes made me think that my colon had to be very dirty so I chose to have coffee enema (detox)
every week to clean it and I did it myself. I had been doing this every week for years.

The first time with coffee enema, I felf really really good, all of the waste came out of my colon with all great push and pressure
I could automatically have in my intestine.
I still felt the good bowel movement when having coffee enema after many months passed.

Having do this for years, my bowel movement showed some bad signs.
I could feel that when letting coffee through my anus, I had no cramps or feeling to release anything out.
I felt only my belly full with fluid and I also heard the sound of fluid shaking inside when moving or pressing on the belly.
I tried to force it out. Some waste came out but not all like it used to be when I had coffee eneme for the first periods of time.
I ended up with 5-6 enemas to empty the left stool and fluid. So miserable!

I have never done coffee enema ever since but my bowel movement still does not work properly.
I have been taking laxatives (Senna) since then, 5 pills at the first time and now 17 pills.
Each of my defecation I must end up with 6-8 enemas (Sodium chloride) even though I have taken laxatives already.
I feel no contraction in my bowel at all.

Now, I have seen a colorectal doctor. She said like I have read from some of you on this webboard that there might be a surgery.
She had me done the colon marker transit test and I had all the markers inside untill the last day of my X-ray.
I had a colonoscopy and found that my colon is a little bit long and a little bit bloated all through.
She diagnosed that I have colonic inertia and also told that removing a part of colon wouldn't help at all.
The whole colon must be removed and the small intestine will be attached to the anus.

Anyway, she insisted that she really didn't want me to have the surgery. She would like me to take many kinds of laxatives to
help enhance my bowel movement to back to work itself.
She said that surgery was not the answer since some patients had complications and suffer after surgery.

The first time, the doctor prescribed me Forlax, MOM, Castor oil. Nothing could do with my lazy bowel movememt.
The second, she gave Mucilin, Senna, Enemas and Hepalac. Nothing could make me poop myself.
I just felt uneasy in my belly because it got bloated and I had flatulence and fart from time to time.
I ended up with enemas as usual.

I used to take Swiff, bowel cleansing, before I had a colonoscopy but I still could not defecate, no cramps no movement
just a swollen bloated belly and like everytime ended up with lots of enemas.

Now, I'm extremely depressed and hopeless about my symptoms.
There seems to be no cure at all.
At firts, I thought there might be the way to cure and help me to get better.
I'm so so miserable living with this.
I have become depressed, irritated, pessimistic and bad-tempered since I have to miserably struggle each day with my paralysed
bowel movement. I wish I could live a normal life as others did.

I would like to ask for your advice or suggestion what I should do next?

I also would like to know about post-operation of the colon or colectomy that whether you have better quality of life or not.
Can you poop yourself? Are there any complications?

Finally, the most important question for me is that "Am I able to be pregnant?"
My husband and I really want to have a baby but I'm so afraid that I can't make it since I have to press and squeeze my belly
very hard everytime I poop to stimulate the force of my colon.

Can anyone confirm that I can be pregnant and there's no harm?

Wish you all the best.

Thanks for your advice and apologize for the long story.

Re: Life changed forever after coffee enema (detox), now become Colonic inertia

It sounds to me like you have somehow managed to do damage to the nerves in your colon, the ones that cause you to need push out stool. I'm sure it will be fine for you to get pregnant, many women get pregnant with a whole lot of different conditions to their bowels, without this being a problem for the pregnancy. I do recommend that you see a colo-rectal doctor, as only he/she will be able to tell you exactly what the cause is of your problem. Good luck

This is not advice but I want to know.... Have you tried prune juice, and walking? When some people drink a whole quart of warm water in the morning it stimulates their bowels. If my bowels were swollen I think I might put a heating pad on it for a day or two. What do you eat? I know someone who poops three times a day and they are a vegetarian. After a couple days let me know.

Hi SJB
I eat vegetables and fish. I don't eat meat, pork and chicken for over ten years.
I have tried to do rope jumping about 30 minutes per day following the advice of the doctor who told me to excercise until you fart. It will helps the movement of colon but I hardly fart at all when exercising.

Poor me!
The most concern of my condition is that I'm afraid that I can't be pregnant.
I would like to hear from someone who has some symptoms like me whether she can be pregant.

Thank you very much for your advice and listening.
It feels good everytime to have someone to talk to.

Hi there, It may not be a difficulty becoming pregnant but the difficulty may be in carrying your child without bowel difficulty. I have been told that peope who get pregnant sometimes have difficulty with their bowels when the person is normal. The question a person should ask their colorectal specialist is, If I get pregnant and the baby grows will I have trouble moving my bowels in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy? The baby with uterus will be pushing upward onto the bowels. I was told in school that it is a miracle that even healthy women survive pregnancy. Another question to ask the specialist is: If the bowel is in bad shape and does not absorb nutrients well how healthy will the baby be in the end? Also another question to ask is will this baby also inherit my problem?

Thank you very much for your advice and listening.
It feels good everytime to have someone to talk to.

Re: Life changed forever after coffee enema (detox), now become Colonic inertia

I know exactly what you are going through - I was diagnosed with colonic inertia 13 years ago. To this day, I've tried at least 100 different things, some work (but only temporarily) & other didn't do a thing. Ultimately, I have to keep rubber gloves close when I use the bathroom because if I'm unable to go after pushing, I use the gloves to manually get the feces out. It's not fun, but you actually get used to it. You may run across people that tell you not to do it, that you're body will become dependent on it, but don't pay them too much attention - you have colonic inertia - your colon muscles are not working properly - keeping them as clear as possible it the best thing you can do for them. The fuller your colon is, the more it stretches, & the more your muscles give up.

Have your doctors performed a defecography? Anorectal manometry? These help determine if your rectal & pelvic muscles are working properly. If there's something wrong in this area, there may be treatments that will help with these muscles, relieving some of your colonic inertia symptoms.

Lastly, I am currently pregnant with my 2nd child. The colonic inertia has been a problem from time to time, but with my rubber gloves on hand (in my bathroom, in my purse), I am able to get things out with minimal pain or strain.

Good luck!

Re: Life changed forever after coffee enema (detox), now become Colonic inertia

Ohhhhh Hi Angiepooh78,

I'm extremely glad to hear that the colonic inertia can be pregnant.
It's the most worry in my entire life.

But I'm still worried anyway if my conditions and symptoms are able to be pregnant.

I'd really love to talk to you about colonic inertia and pregnancy in detail.
< edited >
If no, I will post the message in this board and please give me advice regarding the colonic inertia getting pregnant please?

As to Anorectal manometry, my doctor will do it at the end of the next month since she is aboard.

I never use gloves get the feces out.
I always press and massage very hard on my belly after putting enemas into my rectum in order to make the colon move and generate some force to push the stool out. Sometimes I press it until it hurts. Poor me!

This is the point that I'm afraid. The way I press on my belly may harm and endanger the baby in the womb.
Ohhh what should I do?

Everytime I defecate I always think about whether I can make it if I'm pregnant, whether I can survive and carry my baby through the whole nine months.

I plan to have a baby in the next two years but I don't know if my symptoms will get worse or not.

Please Angiepooh78, please share your advice to me.
Millions billionss thankssssss to every of your precious word.

Re: Life changed forever after coffee enema (detox), now become Colonic inertia

If there are no known fertility issues, I don't see a problem with your ability to get pregnant. Colonic inertia does not affect that ability.

I know that pressing your stomach is the only method that has worked for you so far, but that method WILL harm a pregnancy. You cannot put that much force on a developing fetus without hurting it. Also, during pregnancy, the baby takes up a lot of space so being able to exert enough pressure directly to your large intestine will not be possible. Bottom line, if you want to keep a pregnancy, you will HAVE to find another method. I offered you mine. It's the best way to avoid any pushing or straining - things that complicate the pregnancy.

Also, laxatives & enemas are not recommended during pregnancy either because they are stimulants. So be careful with how often those are being used.

Let me know if there are any specific questions I can help with

Do you use olive oil or anything to lubricate the fingers with?

I always press and massage very hard on my belly after putting enemas into my rectum in order to make the colon move and generate some force to push the stool out. Sometimes I press it until it hurts. Poor me!

This makes me worry about you that the bowel may eventually rupture if you are not careful. Have you ever tried a higher amount of fiber filled foods in your diet? Have you ever tried magnesium powders or liquids to see if you can get the muscles in the bowel to work?have you ever tried other herbal products?

This is the point that I'm afraid. The way I press on my belly may harm and endanger the baby in the womb.

I have my doubts about this because the baby is cushioned by water and muscle tissue. Usually babies don't come out by normal manual pressure as far as I know. I heard sometimes they have come out with miscarriage when a mother has had a severe car accident with severe damage.

Ohhh what should I do? I would be asking the health professionals about it if I were you in case your body is different or worse than someone elses case.

Everytime I defecate I always think about whether I can make it if I'm pregnant, whether I can survive and carry my baby through the whole nine months.

Hi angiepooh78,

Thanks a lot for sharing and listening to my problem.

I have been taking laxatives and using enemas for 6 years, never once manually removing the feces out.

If I don't take laxatives, I will feel very stuffy in my rectum on the 6th day ( I went through the colon marker transit test and I feel very stuffy and tried to push the stool out on day 6. It came out a little just for a little relief but not all.

If I use laxatives, almost all kinds of laxatives such as MOM, Hepalac, Swiff, Forlax, castor oil or even Mucilin (natural fiber) I will feel very unwell in my stomach kind of flatuent, bloated and swollen. My waist will increase about 1-0 inches but I won't definitely feel any cramps, the desire to go to the toilet or a neccessity to evacuate the bowels at all even a little bit.
Therefore, I end up clearing my flatulent bowel by using enemas.

After putting enemas around 60cc into my rectum, I have to wait about 5 minutes until I get the feeling of cramps and want to go.
I have to press hard on the belly to help release the feces out before the cramps disappear which means that I will stop pooping.
I have to put another 60cc to reproduce my pooping circle again.
Each time I poop until I feel fine takes 3 circles.

I wonder If I will manually remove the feces since I feel that it locates deeper than my finger can reach. I mean how can I remove it if I don't feel stuffy in my rectum.

Manytimes that my waste is liquid not solid, and how can I remove the liquid stool manually. I feel like it is held still inside but when putting enemas and pressing, it can come out.

How many days or how often do you remove the feces manually?
How can you do with the liquid stool?
Is your stool removed normally solid, isn't it?
How can you bend or stoop to remove it when you are pregnant?
(It must have been harder in the second and the third trimester.)
How do you deliver the baby, natural way or operation?
(I heard that they will put enemas before you deliver. Do you think that will be a problem? Maybe for me?)
Do the manual feces removing help clear up your bowels or just a relief but it cannot clear all?

These are the questions I have come up with so far.
Million billions thanksss in advance for your guidance.
They are all so precious!!!

Re: Life changed forever after coffee enema (detox), now become Colonic inertia

HI!

I have just found your post. I hope you are doing better now and that you still have your colon! I have to add my response to your question as I have been dealing with a lot of colon issues and have done a great deal of research on this! I will share my experiences and findings with you and I hope it will help you as it has helped me!

1) Laxatives are very dangerous and should not be used, ever! They contribute to weakening of colon nerves!

2) I recommend a good colon hydrotherapy. It is a lot more efficient than enemas and it's purpose is specifically to cleanse the colon. In the process it removes a lot of old debris stuck on the colon walls which make the colon movement sluggish. It also removes all bad bacteria (you seem to have a big problem with that) and parasites! I would recommend it at least 2x a year! I cannot say enough good about it! Anyone with bad bacteria overgrowth needs it badly! Enemas just do not reach far into the colon to do it all nor do they have power to pull the water out. Speak with a good licensed therapist and get your answers.

3) You must start taking probiotics or go raw vegan! That is the only way you will grow beneficial bacteria in your colon! All processed foods, dairy and meats, white flour etc rot in your colon, sit there for too long, create constipation, are hard to digest and promote the growth of bad bacteria (candida is one of them).

Find a brand of vegetarian probiotic capsules (from fridge) that will agree with you. Do not use probiotic yogurt, it is useless in your case. Not enough of good bacteria.

A raw vegan diet is the best food to promote good gut bacteria, quick and easy digestion and being raw, you will have all the enzymes which will aid in nutrient absorption.

4) Avoid chlorine (in tap waters), alcohol and birth control pills as they destroy friendly gut bacteria!

5) Coffee enemas. The purpose is not to cleanse the colon but to stimulate the liver bile duct to open and dump out a lot of toxins from liver! It is the best and safest body cleanse. BUT - you must do it right, your coffee must be organic (you cannot put pesticeds in your colon) and you must juice - drink 3 VEGETABLE JUICES PER 1 COFFEE ENEMA! If you do not do that you are depriving your body of electrolytes! I recommend Charlotte Gerson from the Gerson Therapy where they use coffee enemas WITH juicing program to help in detoxification and strengthening of the immune system.

6) Make sure you drink a lot! Coffee enemas pull out a lot of toxins from your liver and you must drink not only a lot of veggie juices but also pure water to flush them out and stay hydrated. Squeeze some lemon in your water or use peppermint tea and stay well hydrated.

I wish you all the best!
