Bowel resection recovery

My husband had his ascending and 1/2 his tranverse colon out about a year and a half ago. really had no problems recovery wise. Last week they removed part of the descending and sigmoid. He seemed to be doing well until Monday whhich was 1 week post op. Monday afternoon he went to get his staples removed. The nurse said he looked swollen, but that was normal. That afternoon his pain level increased greatly. It has gotten better, but still more pain than before staple removal. He has had a little blood in his stool. He has blood in stool before, doc thinks from internal hemmorrhoids so could be that. His left abdomen just below his ribcage is swollen, you can actually see a lump and when you feel it, and it is very firm. He healed so well last time that doc was amazed so we have no idea if this is normal for 9 days post-op. Even though nurse said he was healing fine we would like input from anyone who has been through this. Thanks!

Renee

Re: Bowel resection recovery

No one knows his body better than him. If he is distended and having increased pain, I would go back to the doctor for an exam.
