I'm been having bowel problems for more than 2 weeks. It was easier to get stools out the first week with lots of undigested foods, but now the stools have become harder and I couldn't pass any for the last 2-3 days. When I tried going, I felt something was blocking the poop from coming out. So I took some stool softeners to help, but now I'm starting to feel a lump maybe outside or at the entrance of my anus. When I feel around the area though I don't feel anything sticking out... Is it most likely a hemorrhoid? Or could it possibly be a polyp?
What you could do is take a look yourself...yes, squat over a hand mirror and see if there's anything there.
It sounds like a hemorrhoid, and if you pushed during a bm, it would/could easily swell the area.
i would suggest you apply some hydrocortisone cream and zinc cream to help heal the area and take down some of the swelling.
Make sure after any bms that you wash the area (hand shower is a good way), and then appy the cream after you dab dry it.
Hemorrhoid wipes with witchhazel helps to soothe the area.
Regarding your stool consistency, adding fibre supplements to your meals can help soften, bulk and "fluff" them making passage easier. I use metamucil capsules (or Exact brand). I started with one at each meal and over a period of time I have increased to 6.
Make sure you're getting enough fluid in your diet.
If you don't see anything and the feeling persists, it is wise to get it checked out by a gastro doctor anyway (or your GP) to make sure it's nothing else. That will ease your mind thinking it's something more serious.

I definitely feel something there, but I can't see it or feel it with my finger, its strange... I'm reading that hemorrhoids cause itching, pain, bleeding sometimes. I know I had red blood on my toilet paper that one day, but there is no irritation(burning/itching) with this. The only irritation I have noticing that something is there. I notice it between my butt checks when moving around. If this is a rectal prolapse would it be hurting right now? I gather that rectal prolapse are red and feel smoother while hemorrhoids feel more like your skin(?)
I do plan on seeing my doctor, but he's the kind that seems to find most things "normal" unless something is really noticeably wrong maybe. Anyway, I'm beginning to think its my perineum that I'm feeling when I'm walking, It feels more external than internal, but when I feel around I don't notice a lump, it feels like my butt checks are rubbing against my perineum maybe and its weird. What could this be? There is no itching/burning/pain, just a feeling of flesh outside my anus in the perineum area, closer to my anus though but its past its outer rim...
I feel it even without any clothes in the shower. The lump or whatever it is seems to get bigger or more noticeably felt between my butt when I press it towards my anus with a finger from the front of my body. My stools have been harder to get out and is a bit thinner than it usually is some weeks ago. I have been taking a glass of psyllium husks each day along with docusate sodium 250mg at night. I'm kind of afraid to stop taking the stool softener because I'm worried I might not even be able to go without it... Is it possible to have external hemorrhoids with no pain or irritation at all?

I'm going to see my doctor today about it, its weird. I don't have any pain from it or itching and I can't see it or feel it with my finger, but it feels like its something on the outside... I don't have pain there when sitting either. not sure if he will be able to tell me what it is. I can't really find any info on the web other than hemorrhoid... don't know what else it could possibly be.
I did, the doctor jabbed his finger up there pretty hard and then wiggled it around pretty vigorously. He said he could feel a lump in there and confirmed that I have a hemorrhoid. He says its small, but he always downplays everything I bring up to him so I don't know... When I walk around I could feel something around the area, to me it feels like its on the outside, but when I feel around the exterior I don't feel anything. I think its probably right inside the entrance. I honestly don't know though, I've never really felt around there to see how it feels like normally so I can't compare. It does feel like there is a pretty hard lump in there. The doctor didn't say anything about it potentially getting smaller on its on, and so far it doesn't seem like it will. He said to try to live with it and maybe when I get older it might get bigger too. Right now it feels like there's a bit of pressure around the area instead of just a feeling that something is there. I wasn't really worried about it until this happened. Is a hemorrhoid supposed to feel like a hard lump, its not solid hard but it feels like there is something in there (blood maybe) building up and making it hard?
