Really dark almost black stools

I meant black. Due to a stressful situation with family, I've havent been eating much in days. For the passed 2 days I've had dark brown almost black stools. I went to ER last night, they did an abdominal and pelvis ct scan with oral contrast. Everything came back clear. I also had a 2 stool cultures, one to check for blood and the other for test to check for infection, also 2 digital rectam exams. All came back clear. I am a healthy 29 year old. My CBC and lipid test were fine too.

Docs said it was most likely due to lack of eating and I will see weird changes. They schedule me for colonscopy in a few weeks. But I had have 2 doctors tell me chances of cancer would be rare factoring my age, ct scans, stool test and hemoglobin is not dropping. I'm still scared that it's upper GI bleeding or cancer.

Re: Really dark almost brown stools

I've been drinking nothing but Pomegranate Blueberry juice the passed few days. I didnt mention to docs because I didnt think it had anything to do with it, if anything it would be rare. right?

Re: Really dark almost brown stools

Hi,
You are having all the correct procedures done.
What you eat or drink would have a certain effect on what you pass the other end.
I definitely feel the blueberry juice could be a culprit. I'm sure if you had Cancer there would be other symptoms and your Dr would take these things into consideration.
The Colonoscopy is always a good thing to find out what is going on and you don't have too long to wait.
In the meantime relax and note that all your tests so far have shown nothing bad.
Good Luck,

Solofelix.
