Sluggish, Soft, Multiple Bowel Movements - Diarrhea/Constipation??

I have been having multiple bowel movements, my stools are soft but difficult to expel and evacuate very slowly, I have to spend alot of time sitting on the toilet. I also have incomplete evacuation, Some stools does not evacuate. It seems as if the muscles cant relax properly
I dont know if its diarrhea or constipation? Should i try laxatives or immodium?

I used alot of laxatives a year ago, all different kinds of..but its been a year now and my bowel movements were normal in between, but now they are sluggish and i have difficulty expelling stool. Can laxatives be blamed for this?

What is your diet like? You need 25-30 grams of fiber plus 64 oz of water in order to have normal bowel movements. You should check with your doctor but a fiber supplement such as Citrucel or Metamucil might help, many people think they eat right but it's really hard to get enough fiber and the water required to keep yourself regular.

As for the incomplete evacuation, I have the same problem and I also have an Internal Rectal Prolapse. I have a good Colon/Rectal Specialist who advised Citrucel 2-3 times daily, if this ever stops working I am facing a colon resection. I would recommend you see a good specialist before you get yourself started on laxatives. Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

No , don't take the laxatives. You need to go see your doctor. You can try this and see if it works or not while waiting to get into see the doctor. Put on some relaxing music on while on the toilet and try doing slow deep breathing exercises to see if this helps to relax the rectal anal muscles so the stool will come out easier and quicker. Have you ever tried taking a fiber supplement to help add bulk to your stools? Bananas, plain white rice.plain white dry toast will help to make your stools more firm so it comes out in a more solid piece so it doesn't get stuck inside you. If these things aren't helping at all .you definately need to see a doctor sooner than later.

I have tried taking fiber supplements, but I give up after one-two days, because it does not works..Maybe I need to continue taking fiber supplement, for a while, to see if it works..and your suggestion about BRAT diet, should I take it alone or with regular meals?
