A bit worried, would like some advice

About 3 weeks ago, I started having some dull back aches, bloating, and "feelings of incomplete evacuation." After having a BM, I felt the need to go again immediately afterwards. I've also noticed that sometimes I'd have incredibly hard and large stools, sometimes thin "pencil-like" stools, and sometimes diarrhea - all in the past 3 weeks.

A week later, the bloating and the feelings of incomplete evacuation were pretty much gone, but the dull back aches and the change in stool were still present. I went to my general doctor about a week and a half ago and he didn't seem concerned at all about these symptoms and pretty much dismissed it.

I'm worried now because the bloating, the slight abdominal discomfort, the feeling of incomplete evacuation, and the feeling of needing to have a BM immediately after already having one are all back.

I've googled information about "when to see a doctor," but I'd like some advice from actual people who have been through something similar. Should I take the initiative and find a specialist myself? I'm curious about having a colonoscopy but I don't have insurance.

Also, I've inspected some of my stool and there doesn't appear to be any blood, and I haven't experienced any fatigue. I have lost a decent amount of weight within the past year (went down to 175 from 195) without much exercise or change in diet, but it was pretty gradual.

I'm a 27 year old male (added for informational purposes)

Re: A bit worried, would like some advice

Hi there!

I came across your post and although I do not have your synptoms, I have been through a long string of doctors in the past four months and have learned a great deal. Hopefully some of it will be helpful and if not, I apologize.

I would recommend going to a gastroenterologist. While many general practitioners are excellent at what they do, they do not have the extensive experience with GI issues and it could take much longer to reach a conclusion. A good specialist will listen to you, discuss what could be going on and come up with some suggestions to put your mind at ease. Even, if it turns out to be nothing, at least you can put your mind at ease and move on. The best place to find a good specialist is via reviews others have written. Not all specialists are created equal. If you want a good one, you will want to do research first to know that you are in good hands.

Hope this helps!
