Colonoscopy... tooth pulled... Rock hard stools

I developed very slow transit time and thin stool, cramps lactose intolerance from I would sometimes go a week between bowel movements jan 2011-jan2012

I had a colonoscopy Monday Jan 30, 2012... The next day which was a Tuesday I had slight diarrhea relieving the rest of the colonoscopy prep.I started to take my probiotic pills...

That Thursday Fev 2 I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled and was put on antibiotics for 8 days..now I know a colonoscopy can constipate you and I know antibiotics can constipate...so anyway after the tooth was pulled I only ate soup and yogurt for about 5 days.

Feb 6 and 7Th I had very small pebbles as bowel movements...I continued to take my probiotics and started to drink aloe Vera juice

So now every other day I have a bowel movement which is good...but they are rock hard and bulky.. I have developed a hemmroid and I guess that's why my stool has some blood on it...I just don't know what to do. I'm trying to drink more fluids but I'm not sure if that will help because that may not be the problem. I just don't want more hemmroids and go through the straining.IV been eating fruits drinking Metamucil, water....

I don't know why all of a sudden my bowel movements are becoming more regular.. Maybe the probiotics or aloe Vera juice maybe the colonoscopy ... This is my story hopefully it will get better itself.. I just need to do something to soften this stool.

Re: Colonoscopy...tooth pulled...Rock hard stools

hi, you could try non-stimulant stool softners. I take 2 a day. And when you had your tooth pulled did they give you anything for pain because that will constipate you as well. The stool softners are OTC by the way. How much metamucil are you taking? You may be taking too much and not drinking enough water, be careful there. Hope this helps, cj

Yeah I was on ibuprofen I know that can constipate you also , I only took 3 800 mg tablets for my tooth.I guess it could be a combination of things....The weird thing is now like I said MY bowels are moving but now they are rock hard. its only been about 2.5 weeks since I got everything done. I take about 1 tsp of the Metamucil a day. I try to stay away from stool softener but I guess a stool softener would work I don't want to damage anything more than I already have.

Ibuprofen can slow down your bowels. I also had fewer BMs after having my wisdom teeth pulled, I was also on Ibuprofen.

Yeah and adding in antibiotics will make it worse.I'm just hoping my probiotics aren't doing it..But considering the obvious They probably are helping me. I take the ultimate flora 30 billion. I'm going to drink alot of water and hope things get better.

Drink 64 oz. a day of water because that does help the stool to stay soft and formed. Metamucil and Citrucell work the best when you drink 8 oz. of water before taking the Metamucil ( 1 Scoopful) and another 8 oz. of water afterwards. You can take this up to 3 times a day as long as you drink water before and after you take it. Eating oatmeal with ground flax seed in it helps the stool to stay soft and eating 6 stewed prunes and drinking the juice also helps keep you moving your bowels regularly. Metamucil works best when you take it on regular consistent basis. I found that if I sit on the toilet every day at the same time for 30 minutes to have a bowel movement is the best way for me to keep from getting constipated in the first place. Aloe Vera juice does help keep you regular as well and the probiotics keep the good bacteria in your colon well balanced. I have to drink extra water when I take Advil to keep my stool soft and be able to go every day otherwise it constipates me really bad.
