Bowels After Surgery

Husband aged 64 taken to small town hospital was vomiting and had diarrhea doctor said it was the flu. After five days with distended stomach and not getting better he was sent to a small city hospital for CT they said it was a bowel blockage and operated and turned out to be adhessions from an appendix operation years ago. After surgery (on Jan 24/12) unable to take him off the ventilator sent by ambulance to a larger city center and has in ICU for 4 days (doctor said this man is a mess). Returned to the smaller city hospital where his bowels are not working right. Doctor keeps leaving him hoping that things will start working on their own because of the difficult time he had after surgery. He is diabetic and and has high blood pressure family history of kidney disease. This is now Feb 22 and he still has ng tube which they are clamping some and he has diarrhea some. They are still feeding him inteveniously but he is having jello and clear soup. They had thought their was a partial blockage and they would have to operate again. A CT scan on Feb 16/12 showed every thing normal. Doc is leaving until this Thursday. Anyone have anything similar. One nurse said he had an ileus. I live 2 and 1/2 hours from the hospital and have not had much contact with the doctor just what he told my husband and what the nurses say. Just seems like wait and see. I am going tomorrow to the hospital and try to see the doctor. Every one says he is a good doctor but very busy. Help
