Diverticulitis and surgery

Hello.
About 1 1/2 months ago I had colon resection surgery to remove 12 inches of my sigmoid colon due to recurrant bouts of diverticulitis. Two weeks ago I had that familiar pain and nausea associated with these attacks. I was completely in shock as I thought I was in the clear for a long while after surgery. My doctors were shocked as well but did mention it could be part of the healing process. They did not do a CT scan as it would have been inconclusive as there probably is still inflammation there from the surgery. I am sure it was another infection but can't understand how it could happen so quickly. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I go to my GI doctor next week to inquire more.

Thanks!
