| Does Lactaid always work for lactose intolerance?
My 12 yr old dtr was recently diagnosed w/ primary lactose intolerance. Ruled out for Celiacs and other GI disorders. She is fine if we are very careful of restrictiong her diet. We look at all labels and educated ourselves on symbols that mean products might contain lactose if they are made where dairy is used (for instance she had a reaction to Haagen-Dazs sorbet). We make just about everything from scratch w/ lactose free ingredients. Well the other day she slept over a friends house.She had never taken Lactaid but I sent some along with her so she could take them if they had anything with dairy. She had scrambled eggs made with milk and buttered toast for breakfast. 3 hrs later she had horrible, sharp pains followed by diarrhea then vomiting. She had never had this severe of a reaction and she took Lactaid with the food. Has anybody had this experience where Lactaid didn't work?
