Unhappy Scared about a recent closed head injury

HI, thought I would try one of these boards to see if it helps. I was recently in a Motor Vehicle Accident. Someone ran a red light and T-boned me hitting the passanger side of my car and pushing me into a pole. THis happend Oct 21. My car was totaled and i was diagnosed with a closed head injury (cuncussion). FOr a week and half later I was experienceing severe post cuncussion syndrome. Memory prob, dizziness, conentration problems, speech problems, bright lights & loud noice a prob etc.
However I"m very scared of the after math of the closed head injury. I just moved to Tucson and am seeing a new DR. He does'nt seem that knowledgable in in Closed head injuries. My accident occured on October 21st. I stillhave a bump on my forehead and I'm still experiencing headaches, concentration problems and dizzyspells. Loud noises still affect me. After the dizzyspells I feel a pressure in my head and it does'nt seem to go away for hours and expiereince blurred vision. This Dr. Says its ok and its part of the healing process. I don't know if I trust him.. I feel like I should get a second opinion. I'm very scared and I don't feel like my self. Graduate school has become alot harder. Please lend me any advice you can.

Get a second opinion for sure! Third if you need to. Your health shouldn't be played with

Re: Scared about a recent closed head injury

As someone who has actually suffered three major concussions over my life time and the mother of a son who suffered a major brain inury wirth a severe concussion,i would very highly reccomend you obtaining an MRI on your brain and also seeing a neurologist as soon as possible, your symptoms,at this level, should not be lasting this long.most of the major immediate symptoms like you are having usually dissipate much sooner than yours are.

did they even do any sort of a CT or MRI scan at anytime on you?i know in the ER on any accident victim, they do not routinely just go ahead and do any type of an MRI just because there are too many unknowns with regards to you having any metal in your body from either the accident itself or from some sort of surgery or other injury,so they usually just do that initial CT as this wont react to metal of any kind.

I would also obtain ALL records from the ER visit and go thru them for any clues as to what they may have come across but didn't actually bother to tell you.this unfortunetly DOES happen, and way too often.but you DO need all of those records.just call the treating hospital you were seen at and ask for the medical records dept, they will tell you what you need to do.its a pretty simple thing, believe me,i have had to do this wayyy too many times in the past.

I think you also need to find a new primary, geez, considering your symptomshe hould be sending you for an MRI at the very least here and also refrring you to a neuro by now.you DO need follow up here and it does not appear your current doc even wants to help you.i wouldn't stay with any doc that refused to help me if i was in your situation.thats just plain lazyness on his part.you deserve better treatment by a doc who actually gives a damn about you as his patient.

at any rate, obtain those records espescially if there is a ct report there for you to look at.any new doc would be interested in seeing the infotoo, espescially the new neuro you are going to be seeing soon(hint hint).you should not be having to deal with this crap at all.you DO deserve to know what may possibly be going on inside your head.see that new doc and ask the current one to refer you for an MRI asap.

i hope this will all eventually go away on its ownbut you do need to know for sure if there is something else going on insode your head.please keep me posted on how things are going,K? good luck,FB

Re: Scared about a recent closed head injury

Hey, I posted a reply to you on here today earlier today, and now its not on here. Did you erase it? It had a lot of information. i've been in an automobile accident, very similar to yours and had a lot of complications and I gave you some advice. I was wondering if you got it. Let me know.

Re: Scared about a recent closed head injury

I have a closed head injury myself - I am going on three years with it from a car accident. I have headaches right sided, confusion, rage, hard to understand things, etc. I had to quit my job and go on social security. Please make sure you get the second and third opinions so you get the help you need up front so they can help you know, and maybe help prevent future problems. I am at the 3 yrs make that seizures come on and nerve damage from the closed head injury. And there is very little they can do for me.

Make sure you go for the specialist doctors and get the request the extra test MRI, CT, EEG, and more if needed.

Take care, hope the information helps.

SHerry
