Constant body pain from Head Injury. Now what?

UPDATED: 10/6/07

I had a head injury about 2 years ago and have had various problems since then. I hit my head on a cement potter (like the one's that are on the sidewalks that accomodate small tree).

Symptoms since the injury:

Joint Stiffness and Muscle Weakness
Small, red spider veins now starting to appear on chest, arms and legs
Headaches
Severe Fatigue
Dizziness and offbalance feeling most of the time. (like seeing stars)
Extreme sensitivity to light
Increased floaters (everyday and will not go away)
Depression
Anxiety
Ridged fingernails
Numbness and tingling in all extremeties
Frequent urination (like I have to go now)
Hair Loss from both scalp, eye lids and eyebrows with the slightest pull
Dark urine with foul odor
Raised red bumps on chest, shoulders and outer upper arms
Goosebumps all over when urinating or sitting down to releave myself.

Tests that I have had done thus far:

Blood Testing to include RA and TSH levels for Thyroid problem
MRI w/ contrast of brain
MRI of C-Spine and Lumbar(see page 3 of this post for a descriptive breakdown of the MRI results)
Hormone Blood Test(negative)
Urologist(ultrasound of abdomen area and urine culture which came back negative)
Psychiatrist-Put me on 20mg of Paxil. Said it was all in my head. Yea OK!!

Can these symptoms actually be caused by a severe head injury? Or maybe can this all be caused from an Infectious Disease?

Should I schedule an appointment with a Neurologist or Infectious Disease specialist?

Thanks for all the support thus far,
Carl

Re: Constant body pain from Head Injury. Now what?

Well, I last visited with the neuro about a month ago and she ran an EMG.

All of the nerve studies came back negative. I figured that copnsidering every test that I had so far came back negative to this point. The olny blood test that has keeps coming back abnormal is indirect bilirubin, which is being said is no big deal.

After each visit from these specialists, I keep getting "you need to schedule an appointment with a psychologist". This is after seeing a neuro, rheumy, urologist and my PCP.

What else am I left to do? I'm just not buying that a psych is the true answer. I have wayyyy to many physical symptoms going on here. I am at my witts end with this whole fiasco.

I FEEL LIKE CRAP EVERY MINUTE OF THE DAY, and whatever I do, nothing seems to help.

I keep waiting for that one morning, that I wake up and everything is gone.

Anyone else?

You have a lot of symptons that sound like this symptons of RSD (Reflex sympathetic Dystrophy). I could be wrong but check out the RSD board which lists the symptons of RSD and has a lot of helpful info. It sad that everyone seems to think it's in your head when you have the visual symptons you have. I been in your shoes and been told the same thing until I lost permanent use of my left arm. It is now locked in a position where my left hand touches my left shoulder and can only stretch my arm out to put my clothes on. I hope you soon find someone who will listen to you and help you. Please check out the board and maybe it will shed some light on your condition.

Yes all this can happen from a head injury. I've had this same sort of thing happen me, many of the same problems over this last 11 months. What is your pulse rate and blood pressure? Do you have bouts of extreme highs and lows? Your pulse rate being high is called tachycardia, and if it is high, resting 100 plus, you might have hypoxia. The head injury could have flooded your brain with damaging enzymes (least this is what I've read and been told by my pain doctor, bless his heart) This caused, pain, spasticity, paralysis, muscle spasms all over. You have been suffering a lot longer, which would explain the blood spots. Look it up, hypoxia, lack of oxygen. My doctor put me on a beta blocker to slow my heart rate, and stop the PVCs, and overnight most of the crap went away. It's worth a chance if you have a fast heart rate.

Re: Constant body pain from Head Injury. Now what?

Thanks for the info. but my BP has always been 120/75 whenever it is checked be a doctor. The only way that my BP would rise, is if I have a panic attack. I do have extreme bouts of highs and lows(mostly lows!!).

BTW Terra157, what is PVC?

I will be sure to look up hypoxia, considering my oxygen levels do not seem right at all.

Thanks again!!
