| coma and severe abnormal EEG
I was looking to see if anyone has any experience or has been through an alcohol withdrawal induced coma. My father was checked into detox 2 weeks ago. He was immediately given Valium. His BAC was .40 then he began Librium. The Librium was not helping to control his withdrawal and the doctors gave him up to 1200mg. He developed delirium tremens and quickly was slipping into an unresponsive state. He developed a fever on day 12 which was due to either pneumonia or the blood infection the doctors discovered. Day 13 his heart stopped and he went into respiratory failure. This was immediately followed by a coma. He was put on Versed for sedation. He has been unresponsive for four days now. He was taken off the Versed two days ago and still no response. He has had EEG's done which show no brain activity. The doctors are calling him a mystery and concerned about his brain. All his organs are working good it is just his brain that seems to be not good. The doctors say he could have had brain swelling from the heart stopping and respiratory failure. They are calling it a brain injury.
