At what point should you consider getting surgery? I was just diagnosed with a pineal gland cyst. I have alot of the symptoms that others describe dizziness, headaches(sometimes severe), blurry vision, having a hard time remembering things, irritable. I was told by my gp that usually the neurologist leave it alone. Basically i guess saying that nothing can be done and that's just something you live with because the risk of having surgery is far greater than the benefit.

It is unlikely that your sypmtoms are related to the cyst. A pineal gland cyst in the overwhelming number of people is similar to a birthmark. Having surgery would probably not help. I would suspect that your symptoms are related to something else such as migraines.
I am completely upset by the statement that a pineal cyst is that like a birthmark. It is true that they can be nothing but they can also be big enough or be causing mass effect on another part of your brain to the point that it becomes symptomatic. You can clearly find that information on the different websites about pineal cysts. I have many symptoms from my pineal cyst and have been struggling with this for 8 months now. I have even begun to have seizures. I can't drive anymore and I am always dizzy and get sick everytime I have to try to watch my son play football or try to read things like this on the computer or simple things like talking to another person and trying to look them in the eye when they are talking. My neurologist sent me to a neurosurgeon who did give me the runaround and tell me that my symptoms had nothing to do with my cyst but it is obvious to me by the many others who have blogs on the computer and have been through this that it is something you have to keep dealing with and finding new Dr's until one finally listens. I have been talking to the people at the Skull base institute. You might want to check out their website.
I was having all kinds of weird neurological symptoms last fall...strong pressure in my head, dizziness, weakness, headaches, etc. MRI showed nothing but a 6mm pineal cyst. The doctor said that usually nothing is done for these cysts and that they are a fairly common occurrence. He also said it probably wasn't the cause of my problems and that I was just stressed out.
The problems went away for a while but now they are back and nobody can tell me what is wrong. I'm wondering if there's something more to the cyst, but I do trust my doctors, as well. I'm a 25 y.o. female, BTW.
