Tremor - Need help

I posted this under "Stroke" also but thought maybe I could find some information here. My Dad had a stroke and has an essential (I think thats what its called as it's always there except when he sleeps and is worse when reaching for something). He's tried Haldol which made him have anxiety attacks so he stopped and now is taking Levodopa (sp?)different on the label as I think it's a generic). Hes taking 3 pills a day at what I believe is 125 each. This is day 3 and no sign of working. Is it too soon to tell or does this mean it's not going to help?. He is in tremendous pain from the tremor as he has severe arthritis in his shoulder and the tremor is making him feel worse. Anyone know if it's too soon to tell on the med or if there is anything else prescribed for tremors that we can look into next?

Re: Tremor - Need help

If he truly has essential tremor, neither haldol nor levodopa will likely help. Levodopa is for Parkinson disease, which is very different from essential tremor.

If he developed the tremor after the stroke, he likely has a different cause than Parkinson disease or essential tremor

Re: Tremor - Need help

Hes not doing well at all and is in terrible pain. Is there nothing for this tremor if its caused by a stroke?
