Constant pressure in head

I wanted to ask about this unusual issue that has bothered me for the past few weeks. I'm having constant pressure in head, more on the left than right side and it's making me dizzy. My eyes have been hurting and it's hard to concentrate at work. Occasionally the pressure wakes me up at night too. I'm extremely exhausted and don't know what to do. Please help me!

Re: Constant pressure in head

I too have constant pressure in my head and have for years. After tons of doctors and test I was finally told I have a Chiari 1 Malformation that is causing benign intracranial hypertension. I am now trying to decide if I should have the decompression surgery that should help with the symptoms. You need to see a doctor right away because so many things can cause head pressure - some serious and others not so serious. In the mean time see if you can raise the head of your bed. I put a couple of 2 by 4's under the box springs or lay extra pillows or a blanket folded between the mattress and the box spring. That helps me alot. Call a doctor asap. Good Luck to you and keep us posted.

Re: Constant pressure in head

I have this problem as well but without the dizziness, thankfully. I've had it for nearly 8 years now, virtually 24/7. I had an MRI done recently and no abnormalities were found.

Going with the headache hypothesis, I tried Topamax for 1.5 months, but that did nothing for the pressure, and the side effects were tough to deal with.

If anyone has found something that works for this problem, let me know.

As you can see in my post what ended up being wrong with me Chiari 1 Malformation that is causing Intracranial Hypertension. I have tons of symptoms.

Constant symptoms are

head pressure
pulsating tinnitus
numbness of some fingers
feel like I am wearing a hat on my head
headache at base of head (varying degree of pain)
neck pain
upper body sore from waist up
carpal tunnel

Intermittent symptoms

burning pain from head to middle back (front & back of body) from mild to severe
numbness in any part of upper body and head
weakness in face and arms and hands
burning and pain in chest in back that has sent me to ER numerous times thinking I am having a heart attack
bad achy pain in neck shoulders and hunchback area where hunch back area actually swells

I have so many symptoms I forget them all - another big one when the pressure is real bad is that I can not talk right. I know what I want to say but can not get the word out. My husband has to finish my sentences.

If you look up the symptoms of these 2 disorders you can see how many there are.

Have you gone to a dr for this or had any tests run? I will be glad to answer any questions. I had to finally see a Chiari specialists in another state to get diagnosed after 6 years of feeling horrible. I am afraid of the surgery and have chosen not to get it at this time. I only work 3 hrs a day for a school and have all the days off that the kids do so I do not work alot and I never could feeling like this. Motrin and heat helps me survive and I just rest when I have to. I can not lift much at all or use my arms or upper body for anything. Well I better stop cause I am probably boring you to tears. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Constant pressure in head

I too have Chiari Malformation. Had symptoms for 15 years and it took 4 to get an accurate diagnosis. I had surgery in January 2012 and it has resolved about 95 % of my symptoms. If you have Chiari you need to fing a neurosurgeon who specializes in Chiari, not a neurologist. Only a surgeon can assess whether you would be a good candidate.

Cheers!

Re: Constant pressure in head

I had last MRI in Jan 2011 which said normal except a point highlighted that pineal gland is prominent 1cm in diameter. Doc said no worries. I am not taking any medicines except 81mg aspirin daily. I have periodical attack like episodes which lasts for the day where I experience head pressure / head ache / anxiety / some times neck pain / weakness of hand and at times feel I might get fits. I have lots of eye floaters which has increased off late and very annoying. I feel the frequency has increased lately. I am wondering if I should take some preventive medications to avoid any future complications. Thanks and take care.

Re: Constant pressure in head

Sounds like sinus pressure. Sinuses can cause people to feel dizzy, tired, light headed, head aches/pressure, fatigued, etc.
