Upper Left Abdominal & Back Pain
I have a long story but will try to summarize as best I can. In the early 1990s, I began having stomach and back pain. In 1995 I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and gallstones and had my gallbladder removed. I was 30 years told and my doctor told me if he saw my gallbladder without seeing me, he would assume that my gallbladder came out of someone who was 70 years old. I felt pretty good until 1999 when I began suffering from fatigue, muscle pain and sleep disturbance. I also had weakness and coldness in my left leg and left arm. I saw a neurologist and had a brain MRI which was normal. In 2000 I began seeing a rheumatologist and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My condition was pretty stable and I felt okay and functional until January 2007. I started having upper left abdominal pain, left flank pain, mid-back pain across both sides of my back, nausea, diarrhea, severe fatigue. My abdomen and back feel hot like they are radiating heat. My upper abdomen is visibly swollen/distended. I've been seeing a gastro who did a colonoscopy (normal), EGD (benign stomach polyps), CT of chest, abdomen and pelvis (normal other than several small uterine fibroids). In July 2007 I saw an internal med specialist who diagnosed me with iron deficiency anemia and pernicious anemia. I began iron supplements and B-12 shots and felt noticeably better for about 9 months. In April/May 2008 I began having same problems again (upper left abd pain, back pain, etc). My gastro ran some blood and urine tests and told me my somatostatin levels were elevated which could indicate neuroendocrine tumors. So, I had an Octreoscan to look for tumors. None were found and scan was normal. I'm about at the end of my rope and am physically and emotionally exhausted from pain and worry. Any ideas for what could be going on, what other tests I should have or if there's anything type of doctor I should see?
