scared!!!!!!!!

To make a really long story short, my mom just caught a infection in her blood stream. she has been in the hospital for 6 months and had her 3 benign tumors removed on june 2nd. she was starting to talk more and become more alert. then in the last week she came down with a little fever and has been out cold. well know we know why. The hard part was supposed to be the brain surgery, but that was the easy part. She has been coming down with infection after infection. Now she caught one in the bloosstream. What does this mean. Are they tougher to contain that other infections? Can they be taken care of pretty easy??? Im just so scared! I want her to get better, but how can she get better when she keeps getting infections?

Re: scared!!!!!!!!

It's hard to offer more than encouragement because you don't specify what infections your mom has. There are a lot of infections in the blood stream. Is she septic? Bottom line, you mother probably has a very weakened immune system at this point, so infections are probably difficult for her to fight off without antibiotics. Spend as much time with her as you can, even if she's unconscious. There is a lot of evidence that people who are unconscious or in coma's are peripherally aware of people around them and it could help to bolster her mood and keep her from giving up. Read to her, or play her favorite music, talk to her. If you're religious, pray for her. I know this is very scary- I hope things get better.
