HELP!!! Breastfeeding question...

My DS is 14 weeks now and for about the past week he is eating like he's never been fed before. He is also draining both breasts within minutes. Seriously, I will put him on the first breast and he'll polish it off in like 2 minutes and he still seems hungry so I put him on the other and again finishes it off in another couple of minutes!!! I am really worried that maybe I am not producing enough milk anymore. He seems to eat every 1.5 hrs or 2 hrs at the most and he finished so quickly I am afraid my body is shutting down it's milk machine. Is is normal for them to start to get really fast at breastfeeding as they get older? Anyone else have a little one that can polish of 2 boobs in record time???
My other concern is he only poops once a day now and infact the other day he didn't have a poop at all. Is this normal?

Re: HELP!!! Breastfeeding question...

Maybe he's hit a growth spurt? I know that when my son is really growing, he eats WAY more than usual. I can't really see your body shutting down it's milk supply at only 14 weeks--especially if you have been exclusively breastfeeding. Just make sure you pop him on whenever he seems hungry, and let him suck for as long he wants because it'll tell your body to make more milk to keep up with baby.
As far as the poop goes, I had this concern myself but as it turns out, a LOT of the breastmilk your baby drinks will be completely absorbed by his body, so he won't have much to poop out, and that's why he hasn't been going. That also makes me think that he's growing--when his body is using everything it's getting to help him grow. My doctor told me it's totally normal for a breastfed baby to not poop for a week! Formula fed babies are different, however. They'll poop much more frequently. But like I said, if your son is exclusively breastfed, you have nothing to worry about. It's very normal!

Also, try to drink a lot of water--it really helps!

Yeah he is an exclusively breast fed baby. Great thanks for the reassurance.

Re: HELP!!! Breastfeeding question...

Very normal. Some babies become very efficient. Plus he is prob. having a growth spurt. My 3 month old nurses the same way. She polishes off one side in a few minutes and then lifts herself trying to get to the other side. She then does the other side in a few minutes. She cracks me up
