Treating uterine fibroids while breastfeeding?
Hi all. Thanks for reading my (long) post.
I went to the doc yesterday (a new doctor because I'm in a new town) because I am having lower abdominal symptoms similar to pregnancy--bloating, a feeling of pressure and fullness, frequent urination, gas, etc. My pants are tight and my stomach is sticking out. I've gained about 4 or 5 lbs even though I haven't changed my diet or exercise. I'm achy but not in severe pain.
She did a transvaginal ultrasound and diagnosed a few fibroids on the top of my uterus, and she said she thought I probably have some growing inside the muscle, too. The biggest is about 4 cm and pressing on my bladder. She also said there's fluid in my pelvis from the fibroids.
I am breastfeeding my 8 1/2 month old son (2nd child). The doctor said that when I stop nursing, the fibroids should reduce, but from what I'm reading that doesn't make sense. Doesn't estrogen go up when I stop nursing, and isn't estrogen something that triggers fibroids to grow? She also said I can take Lupron, but that will put and end to nursing.
I'm curious if anyone else has treated fibroids while nursing. I know from reading other posts that 4 cm isn't that big, but I'm pretty miserable. And this all came on pretty quickly. I thought it was just PMS (haven't gotten my period back yet).
I initially thought I'd just ride it out but I'm feeling worse every day, which is a bit alarming. I don't want to stop nursing, but if it will help I will consider it. I'd rather not take the Lupron if I can avoid it, but again, if it will help I'll consider.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
