Red, itchy spot on breast and breastfeeding

I am 28 yrs old, currently breastfeeding my 10 month old and have this itchy red rash on my left breast (not areola). It is not painful to breastfeed, the nipple is not affected so I don't think its thrush? Its not mastitis, no fever or pain. It's just red and itching with these blue bruise like lines throughout. I worry because my mother was dx with bc and had a double mastectomy (doing great now).
There is no tightness, dimpling or swelling involved. I have had this on my breast before and it cleared up on its own but this still isn't clearing up....should I be worried?

I do not know dear, but I would call the OBGYN office and ask them. Let us know. Thank you.

I agree 100% with vapor1 - when in doubt, check it out.

Very slim chance of cancer, more likely just a skin irritation or mild infection, but let the doctor determine what's going on.

The fact that you had it before and it went away is very promising, but do not ignore it. My mom had similar circumstances and wanted the doctor to look at it but he did not have time! A year later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer while in the hospital for something completely unrelated. Wonderful to hear you are still nursing your baby. A very healthy start in life! My daughter rejected my breasts when she was 6 months old because her teeth were coming in. I'm glad for the nutrition I was able to provide. She will be 30 years old in June.

I had the same thing. It was eczema, which is a skin condition that is treated with a cortisone cream. It itched profusely, and after I nursed, I would apply the cream that was prescribed by the doctor. Before I nursed again, I had to make sure the cream was cleaned off so that my daughter did not ingest it.

There is a kind of breast cancer that makes your breasts itch, so it would be wise to get it checked out. It is not as prevalent as other breast cancers, but I would go to the doctor.

Hope this helps!

Hi there I had the same thing for about a month. Did you get it checked?
